Job description

Senior Database Engineer Redapt Inc. is a pioneering world-class data center infrastructure integrator, technology engineering firm, and cloud services provider. Our teams focus on delivering innovative solutions and services that power our customers' most demanding applications and enable them to extract powerful insights from data that drive true business value.

We are looking for a Senior Database Engineer to join our Cloud Solutions team. This individual will have a passion for cloud data platforms, open source technologies, and enjoys working in an environment where every project requires a best-of-breed solution. Our engineers design, modernize, and optimize database solutions that solve real-world problems and deliver value to our long-term clients. We encourage them to leverage modern cloud database platforms, automation tools, and proven engineering practices while interfacing with thought leaders across the industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, secure relational database solutions that support cloud-native and enterprise applications.
  • Design logical and physical data models, schemas, tables, relationships, constraints, indexes, and partitioning strategies based on application and business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain SQL, stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and other database components used by applications and integration workflows.
  • Tune database performance across SQL, indexing, schema design, execution plans, configuration parameters, storage, and capacity to meet demanding application workloads.
  • Review application data-access patterns and collaborate with software engineers to improve query efficiency, transaction behavior, concurrency, and scalability.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, schema changes, and platform modernization efforts with strong validation, data-integrity, and rollback practices.
  • Implement and support database backup and recovery, replication, high availability, security, access controls, monitoring, auditing, and capacity planning.
  • Automate database provisioning, configuration, schema deployment, maintenance, and operational workflows using infrastructure as code, scripting, CI/CD, and cloud-native tooling.
  • Diagnose and resolve database performance, locking, connectivity, availability, and data-integrity issues across development, test, and production environments.
  • Translate customer and application requirements into practical data models, database designs, engineering tasks, and implementation plans, and evaluate new database technologies where appropriate.
Skills you bring with you:
  • Advanced SQL and relational database design skills, including data modeling, normalization and denormalization, indexing, constraints, transactions, and schema design.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and familiarity with one or more additional enterprise relational database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
  • Strong database development experience, including stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, schema versioning, and database change management.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and tune database workloads using execution plans, query analysis, indexing strategies, statistics, locking and concurrency analysis, and configuration tuning.
  • Practical experience designing and operating databases in AWS, including managed relational database services such as Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora.
  • Solid understanding of database reliability and operations, including backup and recovery, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, security, encryption, and access control.
  • Experience with Python or Bash and automation tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK/CloudFormation, or equivalent is a strong plus.
Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or data platform engineering with significant hands-on responsibility for production relational database systems.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, tuning, and operating production relational database systems, including hands-on experience with database workloads in AWS.
  • Deep expertise in Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, including cluster configuration, performance tuning, parameter management, operations, troubleshooting, and production workload optimization.
  • Proven experience migrating legacy enterprise databases such as Oracle or SQL Server to PostgreSQL, including schema conversion, dependency remediation, data migration, validation, cutover planning, and post-migration stabilization.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and optimizing PostGIS for GIS and spatial workloads, including spatial data types, indexes, queries, extension configuration, and performance considerations.
  • Proven ability to design and implement HA/DR architectures using Aurora Multi-AZ, read replicas, cross-region replication, automated failover, backup and recovery, and recovery strategies aligned to application RTO and RPO requirements.
  • Strong database change-management discipline, including blue/green deployments, logical replication, staged cutovers, validation gates, rollback planning, and techniques that enable zero or near-zero downtime during platform transitions.
  • Ability to move between hands-on database engineering and higher-level solution design as project needs evolve, with sound judgment across performance, availability, recoverability, security, cost, and delivery tradeoffs.
