Job description


The Analyst/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is the local administrator for electronic mapping, drafting and facility information maintenance processes. The incumbent maintains current knowledge of all Southwest Gas GIS applications including but not limited to: ESRI ArcGIS/ArcFM, field mobile solutions, AutoCAD, GPS software and hardware, engineering modeling applications, document management software, and Company-specific manuals and procedures. This position evaluates workflow processes and initiates system efficiencies; creates and executes advanced spatial data queries using geoprocessing tools, Python programming language and/or SQL queries; performs analyses to support data requests for State, DOT and operations pipe integrity programs; acts as a liaison between their division and corporate GIS System Administrator; and provides leadership in the GIS department in the supervisor's absence.
POSITION DIMENSIONS
This position does not have direct accountability for people or budget. However, this position provides leadership in the supervisor's absence and may lead department activities, including the activities of contractors, as directed by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires a bachelor's degree in GIS or related field from an accredited university and one to three years relevant experience, or three to five years of relevant work experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree. This position requires GIS platform and IT systems knowledge. Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Python or other programming languages is preferred.
The incumbent must provide innovative thinking and creativity and be able to interact with functional organizations throughout the Divisions. Good oral and written communications skills are needed.
This incumbent must possess a valid driver's license.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Apply GIS theories, principles, software and data to produce complex maps, web applications and other spatial products to meet customer requirements
  • Develop and execute custom spatial queries using geoprocessing tools, Python and SQL to perform advanced analysis that identify spatial data patterns and trends
  • Provide technical work guidance and lead the activities of division users on the GIS
  • Ensures the overall accuracy and quality of GIS data and products in accordance with Operations Manual requirements
  • Exhibit ability to analyze data in a spatial context and compile data to display complex ideas in a concise graphic format
  • Troubleshoot and identify solutions with the system and/or determine the level of assistance needed
  • Identify work processes improvements and develop automated tools to create efficiencies
  • Assist other departments in analyzing GIS data, review relationships with other datasets and provide concise reports
  • Understand the complete GIS platform from a functional point of view
  • Advise how the GIS can best be utilized within the Division's normal business activities
  • Maintain active liaison with local and project management, keeping stakeholders informed of projects progress, discussing GIS issues and action items, and making required presentations
  • Establish and maintain liaison with Division and Corporate personnel for soliciting input for new GIS applications and enhancements
  • Conduct user training on the GIS system, AutoCAD, GPS software, Capture and PaperVision system as appropriate
  • Provide technical assistance to Division AutoCAD users
  • Provide technical assistance to Division GPS users
  • Provide custom facility maps for internal and external entities
  • Assist with emergency response activities. Be subject to "on call" duty as needed
  • Act as the Division GIS administrator
  • Act as the Division AutoCAD Subject Matter Expert (SME)
  • Act as the Division GPS process SME and Division Point of Contact for all GPS related issues
  • Act as Division Administrator of PaperVision, creating and maintaining user accounts and access levels
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

SALARY DETAILS
Las Vegas: $67,398.00 - $97,732.00
