Job description

We are currently searching for an experienced Bridge Project Engineer to support our Gulf Region located in Little Rock, AR.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, Professional Engineering Licensure and 5 years of bridge design experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Perform/supervise calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs
  • Perform/supervise load ratings on bridges of various type size and complexity
  • Review calculations and design details developed by others
  • Attend meetings with clients and other professionals and organizations
  • Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client within budget, schedule, and project constraints
  • Review construction related submittals
  • Organize and maintain project files
  • Supervising and mentoring Structural EITs and Interns
  • Assist with marketing bridge and structure design work

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Master of Engineering preferred, but not required
  • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.)
  • 5 to 9 years of engineering experience in bridge design
  • DOT experience is strongly preferred
  • Skilled in the use of the following software is strongly preferred:
    1. OpenRoads Designer
    2. OpenBridge Designer
    3. STAAD
    4. CSi Bridge
    5. MIDAS
    6. AASHTOWARE BrR
    7. Mathcad
  • Technical expertise for the layout & design of bridges and related highway structures
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation of existing bridges and highway structures
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and other pertinent bridge design specifications
  • Familiarity of DOT bridge standards and design manuals is strongly preferred
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
