Internship Software Developer In Test Jobs in Toronto, ON

Our client in the automotive industry is looking to hire a Software Test and Validation Engineer in Markham, ON.

Responsibilities

• Execute black-box test cases to validate basic software functions on automotive controllers.
• Validate controller infrastructure features such as CAN and Ethernet communication, diagnostics, bootloader, and serial data against AUTOSAR and Adaptive AUTOSAR requirements.
• Automate test cases using Python and established engineering test methodologies to improve efficiency and coverage.
• Participate in test automation by reading and writing Python scripts and contributing to the development or modification of test scripts from scratch or existing frameworks.
• Use test automation frameworks, such as Python-based tools or Robot Framework, to design, execute, and maintain automated test suites.
• Perform diagnostic testing of serial communication, including CAN, Automotive Ethernet, and LIN, as well as diagnostic services on controllers.
• Investigate and troubleshoot automated test failures and controller issues, working closely with software engineers to debug code and identify root causes.
• Isolate test failures by determining whether issues stem from software defects, test bench configuration, tooling problems, or setup errors.
• Anticipate potential test and system issues, proactively recommend solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement of testing strategies and processes.
• Prepare clear, comprehensive test results and reports that meet high industry standards for quality and traceability.
• Maintain and continuously improve test documentation, including test plans, test cases, procedures, and automation scripts.
• Leverage tools such as INCA, Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, Lauterbach, and VSpy to execute tests, capture data, and analyze communication and controller behavior.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 3+ years of experience with black-box testing of embedded or controller-based systems.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience with serial communication protocols such as CAN, Automotive Ethernet, and LIN.
• Strong hands-on experience with automotive communication and diagnostic testing, including serial communication and diagnostic services.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python for test automation, including the ability to read, write, and modify test scripts.
• Experience with CAPL scripting for test automation within Vector tools to manipulate and control test environments.
• Practical experience using tools such as INCA, Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, Lauterbach, and VSpy for testing, monitoring, and analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to root-cause test failures and distinguish between software defects, tool issues, bench problems, and setup errors.
• Ability to collaborate with software engineers to debug code and resolve controller and automation issues.
• Solid computer skills and familiarity with engineering test methodologies and automation frameworks.
• Experience with black-box validation of basic software functions, including infrastructure features like communication stacks and diagnostics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Python-based test automation frameworks or Robot Framework.
• Automotive industry experience, particularly in areas such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous vehicles, or software-defined vehicles.
• Familiarity with AUTOSAR and Adaptive AUTOSAR architectures and requirements.
• Exposure to embedded systems, vehicle software platforms, and connected vehicle technologies.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Markham, ON.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
