Job description

Overview

The Commissioning Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the successful start-up, testing, and validation of all systems within a data center facility. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing commissioning activities across all disciplines—mechanical, electrical, controls, and integrated systems ensuring compliance with design intent, client specifications, and Tier certification standards (Uptime / TIA-942). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, deep understanding of MEP and ELV systems integration, and experience in mission-critical environments.

Location & Travel Details

You’ll get the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build infrastructure projects. This is a traveling position, up to 100% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in various states throughout the US. (Full List: NC, VA, GA, TX, FL, IA, WY)  You’ll spend 6-8 months on average per project. If eligible, we offer designated daily per diem in addition to base pay to support and help you cover living expenses and relocation assistance. If eligible, the position includes a vehicle allowance. If eligible, travel home rotation will be one weekend per month away from the job site.

Responsibilities

1. Commissioning Planning & Execution


- Develop and maintain detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures aligned with project milestones.
- Coordinate with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure systems are installed, tested, and commissioned per specification.
- Lead commissioning activities across all systems including:
- Electrical: LV/MV systems, UPS, generators, busbar, power distribution, earthing, and lighting.
- Mechanical: Chillers, CRAHs, CRACs, pumps, AHUs, piping, and BMS integration.
- Controls/Automation: SCADA, BMS, EPMS, fire alarm integration, access control, CCTV, and leak detection.
- Oversee vendor Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).
- Ensure adherence to IST (Integrated Systems Testing) protocols prior to client handover.


2. Documentation & Quality Control


- Review design drawings, method statements, and commissioning procedures for technical completeness and alignment with project scope.
- Maintain commissioning logs, issue trackers, and punch lists through Cx software or project CDE (Aconex, Procore, etc.).
- Ensure all test documentation is correctly executed, witnessed, and recorded.
- Prepare detailed commissioning reports, O&M manuals, and final turnover documentation.


3. Interface & Coordination


- Work closely with construction teams, consultants, vendors, and client representatives to coordinate test readiness and resolve site issues.
- Chair or participate in commissioning meetings, providing progress updates and identifying critical path items.
- Support the T&C Manager in planning and coordinating the IST phase, ensuring system interdependencies are properly tested.


4. Compliance & Safety


- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with HSE policies, local authority regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Validate that system performance meets design intent, operational parameters, and Tier certification requirements.
- Participate in risk assessments and method statement reviews for high-risk commissioning tasks.


Qualifications

Work Experience and Education

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent technical qualification).
- 5+ years’ experience in testing and commissioning.

- 3+ Years' experience in OFCI

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


- Proven experience in end-to-end commissioning from pre-functional checks through IST and client witness testing.
- In-depth understanding of MEP systems integration, controls logic, and redundancy design (N+1, 2N).
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute or TIA-942 standards is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office, Primavera / MS Project, and commissioning software tools.
