Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an Associate Electrical Software Engineer to join our Software Validation and Testing Team. In this role, you will support componentlevel and spacecraftlevel testing across multiple AST engineering divisions. You will work closely with software developers and engineering teams to assist in the development, testing, and deployment of vehicle software, using both hardwareintheloop (HIL) and softwareintheloop (SIL) environments. This position is ideal for an engineer eager to grow their skills across electrical systems, software testing, and integrated spacecraft operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and support testing activities on componentlevel and spacecraftlevel platforms.
  • Document test results, including postprocessing data and generating test reports.
  • Support investigations into test failures, anomalies, and rootcause analysis.
  • Assist in developing test plans, procedures, and related documentation.
  • Serve as the onsite electrical engineering representative during testing activities.
  • Ensure proper, safe, and effective use of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE).
  • Track project deliverables and support team coordination.
  • Provide technical guidance and help maintain industry best practices across the team.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, and software engineers to support integrated operations and issue resolution.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, preferably Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. 

Experience

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant engineering experience (internships or coops may count toward experience).
  • Experience with environmental testing or spaceflight hardware is highly valued.
  • Experience programming in C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience using electrical and diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and DC power supplies.
  • Experience reading and interpreting circuit diagrams and schematics.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (preferably Git).
  • Comfort using commandline tools in Linux or Windows environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of SoftwareintheLoop (SIL) and HardwareintheLoop (HIL) concepts.
  • Ability to design simple PCBs for testing or custom hardware tasks.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering verification and validation principles.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Experience with Speedgoat, dSPACE, or equivalent testing platforms.
  • Knowledge of environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with grounding and ESD procedures.
  • Experience working in lab or cleanroom environments.
