Job Summary
Under general supervision, supports the development, testing, optimization, and scale-up of new and existing products across solid dose, ingestible liquid, and personal care formulations. This role assists with laboratory testing, prototype development, documentation, and process improvement activities while following established procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The Product Development Junior Scientist supports multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and contributes to product development efforts from concept through commercialization.
Essential Functions
  • Support the development and optimization of solid oral dosage forms, liquid supplements, and personal care formulations.

  • Execute bench-scale trials to evaluate ingredient compatibility, functionality, and stability.

  • Support troubleshooting efforts for new and existing formulas, including manufacturing-related issues, by helping identify root causes and recommend solutions.

  • Prepare batch records, manufacturing instructions, and other documentation to support scale-up activities.

  • Conduct routine testing of raw materials, prototypes, and finished products and document physical and sensory attributes.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of chemistry principles related to formulation and stability.

  • Organize, monitor, and document stability studies.

  • Support process improvement initiatives involving blending, granulation, compression, encapsulation, emulsification, and filling operations.

  • Maintain formulation records, formula calculations, and project documentation within internal databases and systems.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned tasks and priorities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

  • Collaborate with Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams as needed.

  • Follow GMP, safety, and company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory work environment, including routine cleaning, organization, and supply management.

  • Cross-train across product categories and support team projects as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field preferred. Candidates currently pursuing a related degree may also be considered.

  • Coursework, internship, or laboratory experience in chemistry, food science, pharmaceuticals, personal care, or a related field preferred.

  • Basic understanding of chemistry principles related to formulation, testing, and stability.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document work and results.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts, including ratios, percentages, and measurements.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform laboratory tasks for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally and up to 15 pounds frequently.

  • Ability to use hands for laboratory tasks, handling materials, and documentation.

  • Ability to use sensory abilities, including taste and smell, when required for product evaluation.

  • Visual acuity requirements include near and far vision and color differentiation.

  • May be exposed to laboratory, manufacturing, and equipment-related noise and conditions.
