Who We Are Looking For:
Populous is seeking a Signage & Experiential Technical Designer to join our Activate team in Kansas City. Our preferred candidate will have polished skills in written and verbal communications and the ability to multi-task in a deadline-driven environment. They will also display a passion for quality, creative work. The best candidate will be self-motivated and directed, and eager to learn in a fun, collaborative atmosphere.
Our preferred candidate will have prior experience in the AEC industry, and an interest in working in a dynamic global design environment with a diverse range of public assembly building types, including sports venues, convention centers, and transportation facilities.
What Your Day Could Consist Of:
  • Draft construction document details, including dimensionality and materiality of design elements, drafting orthographic views, elevations, sections, and 3D views as needed to communicate design features and requirements.
  • Assist in the construction management process.
  • Be a part of the collaborative design team - creating comprehensive and compelling design systems.
  • Help manage the review of construction submittals and track the progress of subcontractors throughout the CA phase and review sample materials and prototypes.
  • Complete project assignments with an emphasis on quality, and detail to our clients while being efficient in time.
  • Work with our internal architectural team, external consultants, contractors, and signage manufacturers.

Requirements For Success:
  • Familiarity with materials and processes, construction methods, and millwork or signage construction standards.
  • Understanding of how to read and interpret architectural, engineering, furniture, space planning drawings.
  • Understanding and experience with signage location plans, and message schedules - preferred.
  • Knowledge of permitting requirements and construction and ADA code requirements - preferred.
  • Knowledge of or experience in writing some architectural specifications - preferred.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator and InDesign), CAD Tools, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Solidworks, or other 3D modeling software experience - strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Enscape and Sign Agent - preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to identify and manage priorities while managing a multi-project workload.
  • Detailed oriented while being able to multi-task and work both in a team environment and independently.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, or Graphic Design, Architecture, Interior Design
  • 3-6 years minimum of detailed design experience.
  • Prior signage and wayfinding design experience in the construction world is highly desired.

Additional details:
  • Travel may be required.
  • Occasional overtime may be required
