Position: Sewing Machine Operator

Type: Full-time 4 day work week (32 hours per week)

Starting Wage: $21/hour

On-the-job training is provided for the right candidates


Purpose: Sewing Machine Operators work collaboratively in teams to sew and assemble all of our garments to Melanzana's specifications and high quality standards; They support retail and fulfillment departments as well as embody, share, and support our brand, values, culture, and long term vision.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate industrial sewing machines, and other related equipment, to assemble all of our production garments to first quality standards;
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of garment specifications and quality standards to ensure garments are sewn consistently and accurately;
  • Inspect your work and the work of teammates to identify and catch issues early as parts move down the line;
  • Give and receive constructive feedback professionally and respectfully;
  • Continuously improve sewing skills, technique, and speed to increase efficiency and productivity;
  • Consistently able to meet established production and quality targets;
  • Maintain awareness while sewing to quickly identify and resolve any issues quickly that could affect quality or production flow;
  • Collaborate with fellow sewers by sharing techniques, ideas, and knowledge to strengthen team skills and support less experienced team members;
  • Maintain a clean, organized sewing station and help keep shared workspaces orderly and safe;
  • Perform basic machine maintenance, including threading machines, changing needles, and cleaning equipment;
  • Promptly report machine malfunctions or maintenance issues to mechanics or supervisors to minimize production downtime;
  • Assist the quality team by inspecting garments and bundles when additional support is needed;
  • Travel to second factory (solo or with a team) for at least 4 days in the first year;
  • Attend department and "All Staff" employee meetings, when scheduled.

  • Ability to sit for 8 hours per day, perform repetitive hand and arm movements, strong hand dexterity and fine motor skills and adequate vision to see and work with small details
  • Ability to read and write in English or Spanish
