This role provides hands-on experience in both game development and applying learning theories to digital experiences.

Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.
The Games Experiences Platform team is the core integration layer between game developers, players, and the Netflix ecosystem. We provide the SDKs, APIs, core services, and foundational infrastructure that enable delivery of delightful, high-quality player experiences with agility, consistency and reliability.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with mobile expertise to work on our Games SDK to help us evolve the way people develop and play games. You will play a pivotal role in building the products and features that enable game developers to integrate their games into the Netflix service. In the process, you will help create an immersive environment for Netflix members to discover and play games.
What you will do
  • Develop product features and foundational infrastructure for the Games SDK and corresponding bindings to common game engine plugins (Unity, Unreal)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering partners to scope project roadmaps and build functionality to level up our game developer experience
  • Engage with game development partners to understand developer pain points and troubleshoot issues, and drive prioritization and execution of the right solutions
  • Architect maintainable, performant client code with effective documentation
  • Design code for testability and write automated tests to help uphold product quality

What sets you apart
  • You are comfortable with some degree of uncertainty and ambiguity. The Netflix Games Platform is evolving quickly as we learn what drives member joy in the gaming space.
  • You exude developer empathy. You have great intuition for making a clean, easy-to-use API for game developers to integrate Netflix services, and you actively seek to improve the developer experience.
  • You apply systems thinking. You understand how mobile components fit into the broader system, from client-device constraints to backend dependencies, and make architectural decisions that hold up at scale.
  • You thrive on cross-functional collaboration. You have excellent communication skills and can translate objectives and concerns between different teams, creating greater alignment between all the stakeholders on a project.
  • You are a self-starter. You excel at identifying opportunities and defining & driving forward-looking technical roadmaps.

What skills are important to us
We value aptitude over experience, but here are some key skills that will make you successful on this team:
  • Expertise in either Android or iOS platforms and a working proficiency in the other
  • Exceptional coding skills across multiple languages and technology stacks (e.g. Java, Kotlin, Swift, C/C++, C#)
  • Strong experience building developer-facing SDKs, APIs, and libraries
  • Experience with game engines such as Unity and Unreal, native plugins, and bindings
  • Deep understanding of the technical landscape of mobile development and can introduce new paradigms and practices
  • Experience designing, building, and extending secure and scalable client-server systems

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $388,000.00 - $558,000.00. This compensation range will vary based on location.
Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more details about our Benefits here.
Netflix is a unique culture and environment. Learn more here.
Inclusion is a Netflix value and we strive to host a meaningful interview experience for all candidates. If you want an accommodation/adjustment for a disability or any other reason during the hiring process, please send a request to your recruiting partner.
We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
