Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Role Overview
KLA is seeking a Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance Engineer (P3) to support product safety, regulatory compliance, and certification activities for semiconductor manufacturing equipment within in Ann Arbor, MI, and other East coast locations, notably NY and MA


This role focuses on the execution of safety assessments, regulatory compliance activities, and certification support, ensuring products meet applicable SEMI standards, CE marking requirements, and global regulatory obligations. The engineer will work closely with senior product safety engineers and crossfunctional teams to integrate safety into product design and support certifications from development through product release.
This is a handson, executionoriented role wellsuited for an engineer developing depth in product safety and regulatory compliance within complex industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities
Product Safety Compliance & Certification Support

Support product safety and regulatory certification activities for assigned semiconductor equipment platforms.
Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including:

SEMI S2, S8, S10
IEC 602041 and NFPA 79
EU Machinery Directive / EU Machinery Regulation
EMC Directive (2014/30/EU) and Low Voltage Directive


Contribute to CE marking deliverables, including:

Risk assessments
Technical file documentation inputs
Declaration of Conformity support


Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment

Perform product hazard analyses using established methods, including:

FMEA / FMECA
Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and HAZOP (with guidance)


Identify hazards and support definition of risk reduction measures aligned with SEMI S10 and ISO 12100 principles.
Support safety validation activities and associated documentation.


Design & Engineering Support

Partner with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to:

Review designs for product safety and regulatory compliance
Support integration of safety features into systems and subsystems


Participate in design reviews and change control processes to ensure continued compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
Support product safety activities across product lifecycle phases from development through release.


Certification & Testing Coordination

Support coordination with thirdparty certification and test agencies (e.g., TUV, UL, CSA).
Assist in preparation for:

Product safety evaluations
EMC and electrical testing


Track certification findings, audit items, and corrective actions to closure under guidance from senior engineers.


Incident Investigation & Data Analysis

Support investigation of safety incidents and Safety Incident Reports (SIRs).
Contribute to root cause analysis and mitigation planning.
Analyze safetyrelated data to identify trends and opportunities for product or process improvement.


Documentation & Training

Prepare and maintain product safety documentation under guidance, including:

Safety analysis reports
Test reports and compliance records
Safetyrelated sections of product manuals and service documentation


Support delivery of product safety training materials and sessions as directed by senior staff.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
5 years of relevant experience in product safety, regulatory compliance, or a related engineering field.
Working knowledge of:

SEMI S2 or similar industrial safety standards
CE marking framework and applicable EU directives
Hazard analysis techniques such as FMEA, PHA, or HAZOP


Ability to work effectively in crossfunctional engineering environments.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment or complex industrial machinery.
Exposure to:

ISO 12100 risk assessment methodology
Functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 62061)


Experience supporting compliance testing or working with certification bodies.
