Job description

Job Summary/Overview
This position requires an individual to set up and operate manufacturing equipment to produce metal parts from raw materials in a team-based environment. The role involves planning and performing a variety of machining operations to cut, shape, and form metal workpieces according to required specifications.
Responsibilities
  • Interprets complicated drawings, program sheets, instructions, and process sheets to determine work to be done.
  • Read and understand blue prints.
  • Performs diversified operations on numerical control machining centers.
  • Performs a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished workpiece.
  • Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures workpiece in fixture according to setup instructions.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine.
  • Loads control media, such as disk, tape, or punch card, in machine control console or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
  • Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Changes cutting tools and location of workpiece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Performs a variety of inspection and gaging operations to insure maintenance of quality standards and specifications.
  • Measures workpiece for conformance to specifications.
  • Notifies supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Utilizes override control to correct conditions that are out of tolerance or operating unusually.
  • Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
  • Machines materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
  • Performs machine maintenance.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on machining experience.
  • Experience setting up and operating manufacturing or machining equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of machine setups, fixtures, tooling, and tool offsets.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to perform basic machine adjustments to maintain required dimensions and tolerances.
  • Ability to inspect completed parts and identify defects or deviations from specifications.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for tooling, equipment, and production issues.
  • Knowledge of machining processes used to cut, shape, drill, bore, or form metal parts.
  • Ability to perform basic shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, and measurements.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or machining education preferred.

Schedule
  • 2nd Shift: Monday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
  • Friday Overtime: When needed, employees may be scheduled for an eight-hour shift beginning at 2:00 p.m.
  • Overtime may be optional or mandatory depending on production needs.
  • Overtime schedules are typically posted in advance at the beginning of each month.
