JOB SUMMARY

Manufacturing Engineering Intern is an opportunity for an Engineering student to work alongside senior engineers in all areas of the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and automation work cells. This role will be responsible for individual and team assignments to implement automation and robotic technologies with a focus on manufacturing and Kaizen principles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manufacturing Engineering Projects:
    • Assist with revising and validating products for manufacturability and automation utilization.
    • Assist with design and implementation of automation and robotics equipment with a focus on electronics assembly.
    • Assess product construction and materials for internal and external process acceptability.
    • Support implementation of Engineering Change Orders.
  • Basic ECO (Engineering Change Orders) tasks:
    • Drawing revisions
    • BOM revisions
    • Revise/Release of documentation
      • Work Instructions
      • Work Order Routers
    • Assist in drafting and execution of test protocols for process validation.
  • Gemba/Kaizen Actions:
    • Automation utilization through design/documentation changes.
    • Reduce process changeover through product consolidation.
    • Defect reduction, error proofing in Surface Mount Technology and robotics work cells.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

Required

  • 1+ years of undergraduate work towards a major in electronic, industrial or automation engineering or related field.

Preferred

  • Prior professional internships, relevant Lab or University experience a plus
  • Basic drafting experience a plus
  • Robotics and/or Electronics Assembly (SMT) experience a plus

Skills and Abilities

Required

  • Skills in MS Office, Outlook, internet, etc.
  • Clear written, interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Be able to learn fast and multitask

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time
  • Ability to stoop, reach and lift with your body and arms
  • Ability to see details at close range and to identify and distinguish colors
