Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22programs competing at the NCAA DIII level and two programs (menโ€™sand womenโ€™s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robustrecreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, andfitness programming.

The Associate Athletics Director, Facilities & Events worksto support the mission and integrity of the Johns HopkinsUniversity and the Athletics Department. Demonstrating adherence tothe department philosophy, facility and staff schedule, equipmentand facility maintenance expectations, and communicationresponsibilities is essential. The strongest candidates will have ademonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-basedenvironment and a strong history of building and sustainingrelationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches. Theindividual works to develop and formulate plans to reachinstitutional and departmental goals, to lead initiatives, and tocreate an excellent experience for our students through theirparticipation in athletics. This leader will oversee and executefacility and event operations for a variety of internal andexternal events.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage Athletic facilities including day-to-dayoperations, scheduling, maintenance, improvements, and equipment toensure facility readiness for all users.
  • Oversee event management including all event staffing,security, and operations for external and internal events withinthe athletics and recreation footprint. This includes homecontests, conference and NCAA championships, student and Hopkinscommunity events, and external rentals.
  • Helps to oversee the facility budget and generates departmentalrevenue through facility rentals, camps, clinics, and otherevents.
  • Directly oversees the facility and events team of 6 full-timestaff members as well as 20+ undergraduate interns and studentstaff.
  • Department liaison for Plant Operations and Campus Safety andSecurity.
  • Collaborate with campus partners in Student Affairs andJHFRE.
  • In conjunction with Senior Associate Athletic Director,provides evaluation of risk factors for all department facilitiesin conjunction with the Office of Risk Management and GeneralCounsel.
  • May potentially serve as sport administrator for varsity teams,a responsibility that includes, but is not limited to: oversight ofthe program, direct supervision and evaluation of head coaches,monitoring budget and NCAA compliance, and working with the headcoach to facilitate an environment conducive to both academic andcompetitive success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The Senior Associate Athletic Director directly supervises theAssociate Athletic Director, Facilities and Events.
  • This position will work closely with student-athletes, coaches,department staff, and other campus stakeholders.

  • The position will be a full-time, fiscal year appointment, withfrequent early morning, evening, and weekend work requiredthroughout the year.

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree
  • Seven years of related experience.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition ofemployment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employeeswho provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care orclinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination orpossess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meetthis requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas,laboratories, working with research subjects, or involvingcommunity contact requires documentation of immune status againstRubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received theTdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may includedocumentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicellavaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratorytesting. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases areordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam exceptforthose employees who provide results of blood tests or immunizationdocumentation from their own health care providers. Anyvaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no costin our Occupational Health office.
