About the role

Designs, develops and tests all aspects of electrical components, equipment, products, machinery and/or systems. Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.


Responsibilities
  • Confer with engineering team, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
  • Balance a variety of tasks related to: requirements gathering, circuit simulations, prototyping, testing, trouble-shooting, and software maintenance
  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical components, equipment, products, machinery and / or systems
  • Designs, develops and incorporates new technology into communications components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial and residential purposes as they relate to business unit business
  • Selects and/or designs and helps to assemble test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for electrical / electronic testing of designs and products to verify and validate that they meet product definitions
  • Coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and requirements
  • Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
  • Develops and maintains Engineering (design and testing) documentation per ISO standards that support the business unit quality system
  • Maintains and upgrades the Development Engineering test laboratory as required to support new product designs and test procedures
  • Works with Applications Engineering to develop applications of new communications cabling system devices and products for commercial, residential, and industrial uses

Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of Electrical / Electronic concepts, analog & digital design
  • Familiarity with the properties of discrete semiconductors, RF theory
  • Working knowledge of: Circuit simulation, RF Design, connector design, analog and digital design, microcontrollers, firmware programming in C++, visual basic, production test fixture design and support, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, O-scopes, schematic capture, embedded design
  • Basic familiarity with regulatory compliance and validation testing methods
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and independently
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science & Engineering
  • Prior internship or co-op experience preferred
  • Some experience reading electrical and mechanical drawings a plus
