Job description

LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is forging an American energy future with integrity, innovation, and positive impact. Born in Texas in 2003, we own and operate over 30 utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects in local communities across the United States, totaling 4 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.
LRE continues to help meet increased U.S. energy demand through our robust pipeline of new projects every year. Domestic jobs and manufacturing are fundamental to our full-lifecycle approach to projects, along with a long-term ownership model and a company culture dedicated to our community partners and protecting the natural environment.
Leeward Renewable Energy is always interested in connecting with motivated students who are eager to gain hands-on experience in the renewable energy industry. This internship posting allows us to identify and engage with students year-round who are interested in current and future internship opportunities across the organization. At LRE we run an annual internship program that begins in June and ends in August. We review applications periodically and reach out to candidates whose interests and academic backgrounds align with internship opportunities as they become available. Students that have already graduated or will be graduating in 2026 are not eligible for internships but may review and apply to one of LRE's full-time job postings.
LRE is currently seeking interns for the calendar year of 2026 (summer interns) to participate in a 10-week internship at LRE.
Internship Experience:
  • Your experience will vary depending on the assigned department you are placed in. The goal of our internship program is to provide you with on-the-job experience and a robust learning plan.
  • You will be placed in one of the following departments based on your interest and educational background and the needs of LRE's business (In previous years we have welcomed interns into our Accounting and Finance, Engineering, Development, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations, Project Execution, Legal departments).
  • You will work alongside LRE professionals and gain hands-on experience with projects related to your field
  • Participate in vital industry research and lead process improvements in your department
  • Learn valuable occupational skills and get a head start on your career
  • Showcase your key takeaways in a project presentation at the end of your internship
  • Be a part of a program surrounded around four main pillars
    • Projects with a Purpose
    • Make an Impact
    • Peer Guidance
    • Professional Growth
  • Work alongside fellow undergraduate interns in an internship cohort with company planned professional and social events

Job Responsibilities:
  • Support the team you are placed on by fulfilling tasks assigned by direct supervisor
  • Build relationships with relevant stakeholders through informal and formal meetings
  • Relevant job shadowing within your department
  • Learn technical skills related to the industry and apply those to assigned projects and duties
  • Prepare communication materials and project work
  • Attend all relevant meetings and be an active participant
  • Participate in all internship activities including speaker series and professional development opportunities

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of undergraduate schooling at the time of application in public affairs, communications, environmental science, engineering, and business-related fields
  • Currently working towards a degree relevant to the industry you are interested in pursuing
  • Ability to communicate and work well with both small and large teams
  • Interest in LRE's mission and values
  • Adapt quickly based on the needs of the business
  • Commitment, ability, and prior experience in meeting deadlines for projects
  • Enjoys working in a very "hands on" and detail-oriented environment
  • Self-starter with flexibility, desire to learn, willing to ask questions and take ownership of projects
  • Microsoft Outlook experience a plus

Physical Demands:
  • Position will require sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to relocate to an LRE office in person for the summer
  • Occasionally lift 20-pound or more
