The Product Manager will serve as a strategic and industry liaison responsible for guiding the development, delivery, and lifecycle management of products and services within the Wisconsin Health Data Hub (WHDH). WHDH is a federally funded initiative developing a secure, cloud-native data platform designed to support biomedical research, real-world data analytics, and AI-driven discovery.

This role will translate stakeholder needs into clear product strategies, roadmaps, and prioritized requirements that align technical delivery with organizational goals. The Product Manager will work closely with team members and external partners to ensure WHDH products are user-centered, scalable, and impactful.

The position emphasizes execution, cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement to ensure WHDH products deliver measurable value to researchers, healthcare partners, and industry collaborators.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Roadmap Management

  • Define product vision, strategy, and roadmap for WHDH platform capabilities, data products, and digital services.
  • Translate institutional priorities, stakeholder requirements, and market opportunities into actionable product plans.
  • Identify new product opportunities that expand WHDH's value proposition to research, healthcare, and industry partners.
  • Maintain and communicate product priorities, timelines, dependencies, and success metrics.

Product Delivery & Execution

  • Develop and manage product backlogs, requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for technical teams.
  • Partner with other team members to deliver product features on schedule and within scope.
  • Coordinate product launches, release planning, change readiness, and user adoption activities.
  • Balance competing priorities across technical debt, new features, compliance needs, and stakeholder requests.

Stakeholder & Customer Engagement

  • Gather requirements through interviews, workshops, surveys, and ongoing engagement with stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Present product updates, roadmap decisions, and progress reports to leadership, sponsors, and advisory groups.
  • Build strong relationships with external collaborators to identify partnership and commercialization opportunities.

Product Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Define KPIs and monitor adoption, satisfaction, operational performance, and business impact of WHDH products.
  • Use analytics and user feedback to improve usability, workflows, and feature prioritization.
  • Conduct competitive and market analysis to inform product direction and positioning.
  • Drive continuous improvement processes that enhance speed, quality, and customer value delivery.

It is anticipated that this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. The finalist must reside within the State of Wisconsin or relocate to Wisconsin within a reasonable time frame from the start date of the position.

The Wisconsin Health Data Hub (WHDH) is a grant-funded initiative within the Office of Informatics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. WHDH brings together a multidisciplinary team of technologists responsible for designing, implementing, and operating a secure data enclave that supports the responsible use of real-world health data for biomedical research.

The WHDH team develops and manages a scalable data platform that enables researchers to efficiently access, integrate, and analyze large-scale health datasets from participating health systems. By providing advanced data services, governance frameworks, and analytical capabilities, WHDH accelerates the research lifecycle-from project conception and data acquisition to analysis and discovery-while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory, privacy, and security requirements.

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $95,000 annually, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • 7 Years of professional experience in product management, product development, or solution delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage cross-functional teams and manage complex technical initiatives.

  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or other product delivery methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with healthcare or biomedical research environments and data standards such as HL7 or OMOP.
