Job description

About Western Landowners Alliance (WLA):Founded in 2012 by landowners and managers, the organization aims to increase the wellbeing of working lands in the American West and the living communities, including human and wildlife, that depend on them.
Position Overview:WLA's Working Wild Challenge (WWC) program is designed to support landowners in achieving positive outcomes for both working lands and wildlife. The Northwest Resource Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and coordination of WWC initiatives, including reducing conflicts between wildlife and livestock and improving economic and regulatory support for ecological stewardship, on working lands.

Amount of Time & Status:40 hours a week, exempt, Monday-Friday

Location:This position is remote, but individuals must be located in eastern Oregon, western Idaho, or southeastern Washington. Periodic travel will be required.

Reports to:Working Wild Challenge Program Manager

Compensation:$60,000-$75,000. Salary is commensurate with experience. Duties/Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate implementation of WWC projects and related grants throughout the Northwest, with an emphasis on Oregon, ensuring activities are completed on time and aligned with program goals.
  • In collaboration with the WWC program director, develop strategies, objectives, and priorities that advance wildlife-livestock conflict reduction across the Northwest.
  • Build, maintain, and strengthen collaborative relationships with landowners, livestock producers, and government agencies (i.e. US Fish & Wildlife Services, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, USDA APHIS Wildlife Services), producer groups, and other community-based organizations to advance conflict reduction efforts.
  • Coordinate and expand Oregon landowner participation in WLA's practitioner calls the Conflict Reduction Consortium, and other peer-learning opportunities.
  • Facilitate workshops, field tours, webinars, and other outreach and educational events that promote peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and adoption of effective wildlife conflict reduction practices.
  • Connect landowners and producers with regional, state and federal technical assistance, funding opportunities, and other resources that support wildlife conflict reduction on working lands.
  • Support WLA communications and stewardship services by contributing content and engaging members, landowners, and land managers to increase awareness of program opportunities and successes.
  • Provide technical and programmatic expertise to support public policy initiatives and economic strategies related to reducing wildlife conflict on working lands in the Northwest.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required
  • Working knowledge of wildlife management and conservation practices and policies
  • Working knowledge of land and natural resource issues in the West including agriculture, ranching, conservation, and policies related to these issues
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Experience working with landowners
  • Experience and demonstrated success in working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders toward a common goal
  • Experience facilitating meetings and working with diverse constituencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented, strong independent work ethic; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations
  • Strong technology literacy and adaptability, including the ability to learn and effectively use new software, digital tools, and collaborative platforms.

Working Environment/Physical Activities: Work environment is an office setting with occasional field visits. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the telephone and via email; standing for long periods of time; periodic travel and traveling by plane and long distances by vehicles (including traveling on unpaved roads). This position may also require moving agency materials up to 25 pounds. This position requires the ability to facilitate meetings and interface professionally with the public.
