The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Patient Solutions & Support (PS&S) Intern on the Patient Engagement & Support (PES) team. The PES team drives efforts to establish best practice patient and caregiver education and support programs, enable patients and caregivers to participate in their care, and transform the Association's digital approach for being patients' and caregivers' trusted guide along their health journeys. In order to meaningfully and authentically serve patients, caregivers, and communities, the Heart Association is committed to incorporating lived experience and amplifying patient and caregiver voices to inform, shape, and guide our programs, strategies, and solutions. In this role, you will gain on-the-job experience supporting the implementation of the Association's caregiver support strategy and contributing to the planning and execution of the Heart Connection patient and caregiver experience at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2026 conference.

Internship Overview:
  • Time Commitment: 25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 9/8/26-12/11/2626
  • Location: Remote
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities
Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
  • Support implementation of the caregiver support strategy by contributing to planning, coordination, and tracking of key initiatives in partnership with internal teams
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the Heart Connection experience at Scientific Sessions, including the development of programming and materials and stakeholder coordination
  • Facilitate collaboration between the patient team and marketing and communications team to identify, shape, and elevate compelling patient and caregiver stories-aligning lived experiences with late-breaking research and broader Heart Association's storytelling and engagement efforts
  • Support content development and/or project management for patient and caregiver insights gathering at Scientific Sessions, helping to capture meaningful narratives and translate insights into actionable outputs
  • Help organize and track program metrics, deliverables, and timelines ensuring alignment and transparency across collaborating teams
  • Assist in developing presentations, reports, and internal resources to support program planning and communication
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and project updates
  • Handle sensitive information with professionalism and maintain confidentiality

Qualifications
  • Current college senior or graduate student, preferably in public health, healthcare administration, social sciences, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Interest in patient advocacy, caregiver support, marketing/communications, and public health engagement strategies
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with virtual collaboration tools preferred
  • Required Equipment: Reliable internet connection required
  • Minimum availability of 25 hours/week (Monday-Friday, between 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Remote work must be performed within the U.S.
