Job DescriptionOverview

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Lead Energy - Remote. This remote position is based out of our Richland, WA office.

Your role
  • Serves as the recognized expert on civil engineering design for nuclear facilities within AtkinsRealis US Nuclear.

  • Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues.

  • Recommends engineering process and service improvements, with a focus on their particular discipline.

  • Takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business.

  • Works independently with guidance only in the most challenging situations.

  • Leads functional teams (e.g., civil engineering discipline) for projects, and may lead project teams, meeting milestones and objectives.

  • Regarded as an expert in their discipline, with in-depth expertise in their discipline and broad knowledge of other disciplines within Nuclear facility design, construction, operations, and maintenance.

  • Directs research and solves unprecedented technical problems of considerable scope and complexity, the solution of which may have a far-reaching impact on extensive technical activities of the firm.

  • Receives general administrative direction. Executes independent decisions and resolves important questions concerning area of expertise, being recognized as a technical authority in his/her field of expertise, on a regional or national basis, both within and outside the company.

  • Provides oversight and supervision of the technical work of senior professionals.

  • Interfaces with senior technical managers and all levels of management throughout the firm.

  • Provides technical direction throughout the company within field of expertise.

  • Establishes technical criteria on projects related to field of expertise and provides technical input/direction to project managers and team members.

  • Represents/defends company's technical work to client, regulatory agencies and others, serving as expert witness at hearings and legal proceedings.

  • Participates in technical and professional organizations at a prominent leadership level.

  • Participates in technical quality assurance reviews.

  • Assists management in conducting project review audits involving specialty discipline.

  • Participates in development and maintenance of firmwide professional standards, guidelines and procedures, including design procedures and technical quality assurance review guidelines for application to project production. Monitors utilization and compliance by technical staff relative to these standards, documents, guidelines and procedures.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of in-house technical development programs and coordinates with operating managers to selectively involve appropriate engineering staff in these in-house programs as well as in outside technical development opportunities (conferences, seminars, student coursework, etc.)

  • Coordinates with operational managers to identify staffing needs, deficiencies and opportunities for recruitment in technical specialty area. Assists in the identification, screening, recruitment and orientation of qualified candidates to fill key vacancies within specialty field.

  • Leads initiatives with considerable risk and complexity; develops the related strategy for execution.

  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop unprecedented solutions.

  • Impacts the direction and resource allocation for initiatives, projects or services; works within general functional policies.

  • Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections and persuades others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About you
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.

  • This level may be achieved by technical professionals with 15 years of experience. Typical incumbent has 20-25 years of experience.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License required, with ability to be licensed in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Strong communication skills in a challenging, multi-tiered environment.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to foster and achieve goal alignment among participants with differing interests.

  • Expert knowledge of key design codes and standards for commercial nuclear facilities required. Participation in appropriate national consensus standard/code committees preferred. Codes and standards include, but are not limited to:

  • NRC Reg Guides 1.136, 1.142 and ACI-318, ACI-349 and ACI-359 for concrete structures.

  • NRC Reg Guide 1.243 and ANSI/AISC N690 for safety-related steel structures.

  • NRC guidelines for Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis for nuclear power reactors.

  • Expert knowledge in the use of civil/structural design software codes, including ANSYS.

  • Structural Engineering (SE) License desirable.

  • Senior design professional on Commercial and Department of Energy nuclear reactor projects.

  • Senior design professional on Commercial and Department of Energy nuclear fuel cycle facilities.

  • Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.
