The Remote Pharmacist - Clinical Support & Patient Services position is to provide pharmacist-level services remotely from the Genesis Healthcare, Inc corporate office, supporting prescription processing, medication review, and pharmacist-level call handling across Genesis pharmacy operations. This role performs remote pharmacist functions, including prescription hardcopy review, prospective drug use review, clinical problem resolution, patient counseling, provider communication, and workflow support using approved pharmacy and communication systems. The position is designed to support efficient, compliant pharmacy operations while maintaining high standards of patient safety, service, and documentation. Duties are performed in accordance with Genesis policies, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and implementing regulations, applicable federal law, and South Carolina Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations.

1. Functions as a point of contact for all pharmacy-related duties.

2. Ensure and uphold the confidentiality requirements of all patient records, and manage all daily tasks and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as the pharmacy's policies and regulations regarding confidentiality and security.
3. Ensures pharmacist reviews, clinical interventions, prescription clarifications, and patient/provider communications are accurately documented.

PRIMARY TASKS & DUTIES
1. Review prescription orders for completeness, appropriateness, legality, and therapeutic accuracy before dispensing or releasing within the Genesis workflow.
2. Perform prospective drug use review, identify clinical concerns, and resolve medication-related issues requiring pharmacist judgment.
3. Verify prescription processing steps and support remote pharmacy workflow accuracy through the pharmacy management system.
4. Answer inbound pharmacist-level calls from patients, caregivers, providers, and clinic staff in a call-center environment and resolve issues within the pharmacist's scope.
5. Provide patient counseling and medication education, including responding to prescription-specific and therapy-related questions.
6. Contact prescribers and healthcare providers to clarify prescriptions, address therapy concerns, resolve drug utilization issues, and support continuity of care.
7. Triage urgent calls and prioritize issues involving therapy risk, prescription clarification, counseling, or operational escalation.
8. Support service recovery and patient experience by resolving escalated concerns that require pharmacist expertise.
9. Collaborate with onsite teams, remote technicians, and healthcare professionals using approved communication tools.
10. Maintain responsiveness, call quality, and documentation standards in a high-volume remote support environment.
11. Provide pharmacist oversight, direction, and support to remote order entry technicians in compliance with South Carolina ratio and supervision requirements and support technician escalation needs during remote workflow.
12. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of pharmacist review, interventions, communications, and workflow accountability in the Pharmacy Management System and other related systems.
13. Support quality improvement, workflow optimization, policy compliance, orientation, and annual competency activities for remote pharmacy operations.
14. Function independently with strong judgment while remaining accessible to staff and patients for pharmacist consultation.
15. Contribute to program development, workflow improvement, and service expansion where applicable.
16. Promote accurate workflow delegation, compliant documentation, and effective team communication across sites.
17. Use only Genesis-approved workstations and secure access methods, including VPN and distinct user authentication processes.

RequirementsEducation
• College Degree in Pharmacy (PharmD or BS).
Professional
• Active Pharmacist License in good standing in South Carolina required
• Strong clinical judgment, medication review skills, and communication ability.
Physical/Environmental
• Ability to interact with computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).
• Ability to maintain high standards of patient safety, patient privacy, service, productivity, and documentation.
• Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to remain stationary for periods of up to four hours.
• Ability to communicate virtually, via phone, mail, email, and in person (if applicable) to resolve disputes, solve problems, etc.
• Capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking environment
