Job description

About Molecule
Molecule is a modern, cloud-native ETRM (Energy Trading and Risk Management) platform transforming how energy and commodity trading firms manage their positions, risk, and operations. We're known for our clean UI, rapid deployments, powerful APIs, and our ability to simplify complex trading data for physical and financial commodities.
Role Overview
We're building out natural gas scheduling capabilities within Molecule's ETRM system and are seeking an experienced natural gas scheduler to join us as a Product Advisor. In this part-time or contract role, you will not be performing day-to-day scheduling. Instead, you'll bring deep functional expertise to inform the design and development of next-generation scheduling tools that align with industry practices, regulatory constraints, and operational realities.
This is an opportunity to influence the direction of a major new product feature from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on natural gas scheduling processes (e.g., nominations, confirmations, pipeline constraints, imbalances).
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and designers to define requirements and validate workflows.
- Provide detailed input on user journeys, edge cases, and data structures for gas scheduling tools (e.g., NAESB formats, pipeline interconnects, scheduling windows).
- Identify key integrations needed with third-party systems (pipelines, trading platforms, ISO/RTOs).
- Review prototypes and wireframes to ensure usability and industry relevance.
- Help prioritize features and enhancements based on market norms and real-world scheduler needs.
- Optionally participate in user interviews or customer-facing feedback sessions to validate assumptions and gather insights.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in natural gas scheduling, preferably at a trading firm, marketer, or utility.
- Deep understanding of interstate and intrastate pipeline operations and FERC-related practices.
- Familiarity with ETRM/CTRM systems and how scheduling modules typically function.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate operational details into actionable product guidance.
- Previous experience contributing to software product development (not required, but a plus).
- Comfortable working independently and asynchronously with a globally distributed team.
Commitment & Compensation
- Part-time or contract role requiring approximately 10-20 hours per week.
- Duration: Initial 3-6 month engagement with possibility for extension or expansion.
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
If you're excited about helping shape the future of natural gas scheduling software and want to work with a collaborative, mission-driven team, we'd love to hear from you.
