The Department of Economic Security, Division of Technology Services, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to join our team as an Intern. This position will serve as IT Analyst Intern.This position works on real projects utilizing modern technologies including AI/ML, Generative AI, Informatica, cloud platforms, and data analytics. The Intern collaborates with experienced professionals and explores how technology solves meaningful business challenges within a fast paced, innovative work environment.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the department's needs and continual meetings of expected performance measures.
The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. Across our many agencies, boards, commissions, many State employees participate in the State's Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes, in offices, and in hoteling spaces. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.
Job Duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Exposure and practical experience with modern technologies including AI/ML, Generative AI, Informatica, cloud platforms, and data analytics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders.
• Assist with gathering business requirements and conduct proof of concepts using Microsoft OPEN AI.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
• Business Analysis concepts, requirements, gathering, and process improvement.
• Foundational knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related technologies.
• Data management, data analytics, ETL concepts, or database fundamentals.
• Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) or Google Workspace and basic data visualization tools.
Skills In:
• Analytics and problem-solving with attention to detail.
• Written and verbal communication.
• Basic skills in SQL, Python, R, or other data-related programming languages (preferred).
• Good documentation and presentation.
• Basic data analysis and reporting.
Ability to:
• Demonstrate curiosity and passion for technology, data, and business problem-solving.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Manage time efficiently and deliver assigned tasks within deadlines.
• Gather, document, and analyze business requirements.
• Learn new technologies quickly, including Informatica tools, AI platforms, and business intelligence applications.

Selective Preference(s):
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• Rising Junior or Senior level in a degree program with skills, and/or background in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
• Employee shall obtain and maintain a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card that meets DES requirements for a Level One card pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1969.
• Candidate must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Letter of Recommendation from a professor or guidance counselor.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
• Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
• This position may require driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver's License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
