What is a remote eating disorder internship?

A remote eating disorder internship is a supervised, practical work experience conducted online, where interns assist professionals in the field of eating disorder treatment and recovery. Interns may work with therapists, dietitians, or organizations providing support to individuals struggling with eating disorders, participating in research, administrative tasks, or client support through virtual platforms. These internships offer valuable exposure to the field without requiring in-person attendance, making them accessible to students and recent graduates from various locations. The experience helps interns develop relevant skills and insights into the complexities of eating disorder treatment and advocacy.

What are the main responsibilities and learning opportunities for a remote eating disorder intern?

As a remote intern in an eating disorder treatment program, you'll typically assist with client support, research, and administrative tasks such as maintaining client records and helping facilitate virtual group sessions. You'll gain exposure to evidence-based treatment approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family-Based Therapy (FBT), while collaborating closely with licensed clinicians and dietitians. Interns often have opportunities to attend team meetings, observe client interactions (with permission), and participate in case discussions, all of which enhance clinical understanding and teamwork skills. The remote setting can present challenges in building rapport with clients and colleagues, but it also fosters strong communication and self-management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote eating disorder intern?

To thrive as a Remote Eating Disorder Intern, you typically need coursework or a degree in psychology, nutrition, social work, or a related field, along with a strong understanding of eating disorder pathology.
