ABOUT THE ROLE

SC Johnson is building and advancing its Global Information Security (GIS) Governance function within the Legal organization, with a focus on strengthening enterprise-wide data governance and data protection practices. As a Senior Associate, Information Security - Data Governance, you will help protect sensitive business data by partnering with business and technology teams to embed practical governance standards into day-to-day operations. In this hands-on individual contributor role, you will support the development of scalable governance processes, improve visibility into data risks, and help ensure compliance with legal and regulatory expectations across the data lifecycle.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the enterprise data governance roadmap, with a focus on data protection and risk-based governance
  • Drive adoption of data governance policies, standards, and protection requirements by working directly with business teams
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of the data governance framework, including processes, metrics, tools, and supporting architecture
  • Define and reinforce data governance roles and responsibilities; coach data owners and stewards on protecting and managing data effectively
  • Partner with business and technology teams to ensure data protection requirements are practical and embedded into daily operations
  • Support development and maintenance of data inventories, classification, and data flow documentation to improve visibility and protection of sensitive data
  • Assist in resolving data governance and data protection issues escalated by business teams
  • Monitor industry trends and recommend improvements to strengthen governance and data protection practices

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data protection, or information risk roles with business engagement.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship for full-time employment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Experience with enterprise data governance practices, including data standards, lifecycle management, and retention
  • Knowledge of governance and risk management frameworks such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), or Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies (COBIT)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft data protection and governance tools (e.g., M365, Purview), and ability to support business adoption
  • Experience supporting compliance or assurance activities and translating findings into actionable improvements
  • Ability to identify and mitigate data risks through direct collaboration with business stakeholders
  • Experience working with data owners and stewards to drive governance outcomes through influence and education
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time onsite in our Racine HQ office location
  • This role is not eligible for relocation assistance
  • Remote work is available once per week for eligible employees after 90-day onboarding period
