We are looking for a Payroll Manager to oversee accurate, timely payroll operations for a multi-state workforce in a fully remote Contract position based in Huntsville, Alabama. This role is ideal for a hands-on payroll specialist who can work autonomously, maintain strict compliance standards, and partner effectively with HR and Accounting. The successful candidate will bring strong operational expertise, sound judgment, and a detail-focused approach to resolving payroll issues and supporting ongoing financial processes.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing to ensure employees are paid correctly and on schedule.
• Administer payroll activities across multiple states while maintaining complete and organized payroll records.
• Manage payroll taxes, employee deductions, garnishments, and benefit-related payroll inputs with a high level of accuracy.
• Perform payroll reconciliations and contribute to month-end close by validating payroll-related balances and entries.
• Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local payroll requirements and apply updates to payroll practices as needed.
• Address employee questions related to pay, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Work closely with Human Resources and Accounting to coordinate payroll data, reporting, and related compliance needs.• At least 5 years of experience in payroll leadership or advanced payroll administration roles.
• Proven hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online Payroll.
• Practical experience processing payroll for employees in multiple states.
• Solid understanding of payroll tax rules, wage deductions, garnishments, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and solve payroll issues efficiently.
• Ability to manage responsibilities independently in a remote work environment.
• Payroll certification with a strong attention to detail is preferred.
