Internship Remote Automation Testing roles are entry-level positions designed for learners gaining practical experience, often with supervision. Junior Automation Testers are more experienced, responsible for executing automation tasks independently. Both roles typically require familiarity with automation tools and testing concepts, but internships focus on training and skill development, while junior roles involve more autonomous work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Remote Automation Testing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Remote Automation Testing professional, you need a foundational understanding of software testing principles, programming languages (such as Java or Python), and a relevant educational background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with automation tools like Selenium, JUnit, or TestNG, and version control systems such as Git, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you identify issues and collaborate with remote teams. These skills ensure efficient test automation, quality software delivery, and successful teamwork in a distributed work environment.

What types of projects and tools can I expect to work with during a remote automation testing internship?

As a remote automation testing intern, you will typically work on real-world projects involving the creation and execution of automated test scripts to ensure software quality. Common tools you may encounter include Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, and CI/CD platforms like Jenkins or GitHub Actions. Your daily tasks might involve collaborating with developers and QA engineers through virtual meetings, reporting bugs, and writing test cases for web or mobile applications. This experience not only builds your technical skills but also helps you develop remote communication and teamwork abilities that are highly valued in today's tech industry.

What is a remote automation testing internship?

A remote automation testing internship is a temporary, entry-level position where interns gain practical experience in software quality assurance by writing and executing automated tests, all while working remotely. Interns typically use testing tools and programming languages to create scripts that automatically check software functionality, identify bugs, and ensure the product meets quality standards. The remote aspect means all work, communication, and collaboration are done online, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from any location. This type of internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in software testing and automation.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Postgres Deployment Engineer (Nix) based in Netherlands.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced infrastructure engineer passionate about PostgreSQL, deployment automation, and scalable developer platforms. In this role, you will help shape the reliability and evolution of a modern cloud database ecosystem by improving deployment pipelines, packaging systems, and release processes. Working within a globally distributed, remote-first engineering environment, you'll collaborate closely with product and infrastructure teams to deliver stable, production-ready solutions. You'll leverage Nix, cloud-native technologies, and automation to simplify complex deployments while contributing to tooling that supports developers at massive scale. If you enjoy solving infrastructure challenges, mentoring teammates, and building resilient systems, this role offers meaningful technical ownership and long-term impact.

Accountabilities
  • Own the packaging and deployment of PostgreSQL components using Nix, including flakes, while supporting the ongoing migration from traditional packaging approaches.
  • Manage PostgreSQL lifecycle operations, ensuring timely major, minor, and extension upgrades while maintaining platform stability.
  • Design, improve, and maintain deployment systems that enable engineering teams to self-service releases efficiently and safely.
  • Enhance CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions workflows, testing strategies, and release automation to improve software delivery and operational reliability.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production deployment issues by proactively identifying root causes and implementing long-term improvements.
  • Establish and maintain testing standards, deployment best practices, and operational processes that reduce release risk and improve platform resilience.
  • Collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to optimize deployment workflows and strengthen system reliability.
  • Mentor fellow engineers by sharing expertise in Nix-based development practices and supporting wider adoption across the engineering organization.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience working with PostgreSQL, including database administration, extensions, upgrades, and performance optimization.
  • Strong expertise in infrastructure engineering, deployment automation, and production system management.
  • Hands-on experience with the Nix package management system, including flakes, along with tools such as Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building and packaging software across multiple architectures, particularly Linux and Darwin/macOS aarch64 environments.
  • Familiarity with polyglot development ecosystems, including C/C++, Go, JavaScript, and Rust-based projects.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD practices, release engineering, automation tooling, and production deployment workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Comfortable working independently in asynchronous, globally distributed environments while taking ownership of complex technical initiatives.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge, and driving adoption of modern infrastructure practices.

Benefits

  • Fully remote position with the flexibility to work from anywhere.
  • Equity participation through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
  • Technology allowance to build and maintain an optimal home office setup.
  • Comprehensive health insurance, including full employee coverage and substantial dependent coverage.
  • Annual company-wide off-site events that bring together global team members for collaboration and networking.
  • Flexible, asynchronous work environment that promotes autonomy and work-life balance.
  • Annual professional development budget for courses, conferences, books, and continuous learning.
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge open-source technologies with a globally distributed engineering team.
