Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm


Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.


Additional Department Summary: The Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Department at The University of Alabama, is seeking a candidate for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research interests in water quality, water security, and geospatial data analysis. The candidate will support CWQR research projects, including the development of a water security dashboard and engagement with water utilities.
Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity and funding.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Water Resources, Geography/GIS, or a related field.
Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.


Skills and Knowledge: Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) and geospatial data analysis, designing and administering surveys, and managing and visualizing environmental data. Strong analytical chemistry skills are, including but not limited to LC-MS, ICP-OES and GC-MS.


Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS) and dashboard or data-visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, R Shiny, or Python-based frameworks). Experience with survey design and stakeholder engagement, database management, and water quality datasets.
