Main Purpose of Job

To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as provide an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf Students. The teacher provides instruction in Automotive Technology and Collision Repair and related Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, fostering both industry-specific skills and academic growth.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Plan, deliver, and assess classroom\r\ninstruction and hands-on lab experiences aligned to the Automotive Technology\r\nand Auto Body/Collision Repair programs of study, including automotive systems,\r\ndiagnostics, preventative maintenance, damage analysis, structural and\r\nnon-structural repair, refinishing, shop safety, industry tools and equipment,\r\nand professional automotive practices. Design and develop instructional materials\r\nto support student learning.\r\n\r\n\r\nIntegrate bilingual and visual instructional\r\nstrategies that support language access and comprehension for deaf and\r\nhard-of-hearing students, including collaboration with interpreters and related\r\nservice providers as needed.\r\n\r\n\r\nFacilitate real-world automotive and collision\r\nrepair experiences through school-based projects, work-based learning\r\nopportunities, and internships, guiding students in professional standards,\r\nteamwork, problem-solving, and customer service expectations.\r\n\r\n\r\nSupervise and mentor students during on-campus\r\nshop activities and off-site automotive experiences, including job shadowing,\r\ninternships, and industry visits, to ensure safe, high-quality, and educational\r\npractices.\r\n\r\n\r\nManage and operate the automotive and\r\ncollision repair lab spaces, providing students with opportunities to apply\r\ntechnical, diagnostic, and employability skills using industry-standard tools\r\nand equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\nMaintain accurate inventory of tools,\r\nequipment, parts, and instructional materials; oversee proper use, storage, and\r\nmaintenance of automotive and collision repair equipment; and coordinate with\r\nadministration and vendors to ensure the lab remains fully equipped, safe, and\r\ninstructional-ready.\r\n\r\n\r\nDeliver instruction aligned to industry-recognized\r\ncredentials and frameworks, including ASE Education Foundation standards for\r\nautomotive service and maintenance, I-CAR Academy curriculum for collision\r\nrepair and refinishing, and SAE-informed best practices. Prepare students to\r\nmeet certification requirements while developing strong understanding of\r\nworkplace safety, environmental and regulatory compliance, diagnostic and\r\nrepair procedures, documentation, and professional expectations across\r\nautomotive technology and auto body programs of study.\r\n\r\n\r\nMaintain a safe, clean, and organized\r\nautomotive and collision repair shop environment that meets safety regulations,\r\nindustry standards, and instructional needs.\r\n\r\n\r\nDevelop and maintain weekly lesson plans\r\naligned to course standards and program expectations, using student data and\r\nassessments to differentiate instruction and promote mastery of technical and\r\nemployability competencies.\r\n\r\n\r\nImplement IEP accommodations and supplementary\r\naids, collect data, and collaborate with support staff to monitor student\r\nprogress and ensure equitable access to instruction.\r\n\r\n\r\nCoordinate and coach students for career and\r\ntechnical student organization competitions, fostering leadership, technical\r\nexcellence, and pride in their automotive and collision repair skills.\r\n\r\n\r\nPromote a positive, inclusive learning environment\r\nthat encourages critical thinking, collaboration, professionalism, and respect\r\nfor diverse career pathways within the automotive and transportation\r\nindustries.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree required.\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates must be eligible to apply for or be willing\r\nto obtain licensure by the Maryland State Department of Education. Fluency in\r\nAmerican Sign Language and written English required. Knowledge of the deaf\r\nculture, deaf education, students with additional disabilities, and ability to\r\nteach students on different levels and with varying educational and language\r\nacquisition backgrounds is required.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in Education or special\r\neducation of Deaf students, Maryland State Department of Education\r\nCertification. Experience/knowledge in automotive technology and collision\r\nrepair. Vocational experience in the\r\nautomotive industry and/or experience in K-12 Automotive Technology and\r\nCollision Repair instruction.\r\nIndustry-recognized credentials aligned to Automotive Technology and\r\nCollision Repair instruction, such as ASE certifications and I-CAR credentials\r\nsuch as ASE Master Technician certification, ASE Education Foundation\r\nInstructor, I-CAR Platinum ProLevel certification, or EPA Section 609\r\ncertification.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\nNew hires are subject to a criminal background\r\ninvestigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1,\r\nSections 5-560-568)\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidates will need to provide three letters\r\nof recommendation with their application.\r\n\r\n\r\n
