Job description

Support the integrations that connect and keep our systems working together.Hastings Insurance is seeking an Associate Integration Developer to help build, maintain, and support the core APIs and microservices connecting our Property & Casualty systems. Working directly alongside senior developers and enterprise architects, this early-career role offers hands-on exposure to enterprise integration patterns, modern backend development, and cloud-ready architectures. This role is ideal for an intellectually curious entry-level developer with strong C# fundamentals who wants to build a career in backend engineering while learning modern microservices, containerized deployments, and AI-assisted development workflows. Location & ScheduleThis is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role may be performed onsite at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters or in a hybrid arrangement. We will also consider remote candidates who reside in one of our operating states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin. What You'll Do
  • Build & Maintain | Assist in writing, testing, and supporting maintainable backend services, REST APIs, and integration workflows connecting core P&C applications.
  • Troubleshoot & Resolve | Help investigate, debug, and resolve issue reports across deployed integration services to ensure system reliability and data integrity.
  • Adopt Modern Tooling | Learn and utilize AI-assisted development practices (e.g., leveraging AI tools for coding assistance, test generation, and debugging) to build strong engineering habits.
  • Learn Modern Patterns | Work closely with senior developers to gain hands-on experience with decoupled service architectures and containerized deployment practices.
  • Follow Engineering Practices | Participate in code reviews, write automated unit tests, document service endpoints, and contribute to standard CI/CD deployment pipelines.
What You'll Bring
  • Technical Foundation | Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on project experience) with a strong grasp of object-oriented programming.
  • Core .NET & C# | Solid foundational knowledge of C# and modern .NET concepts (with an eagerness to learn modern releases like .NET 8/10).
  • Database & API Basics | Familiarity with relational database concepts (SQL) and basic RESTful API design principles.
  • Intellectual Curiosity & Problem-Solving | A natural drive to dig into complex codebases, understand how systems work at a fundamental level, and continuously learn new technologies and engineering practices.
  • Containerization & Tooling Interest | Curiosity or basic exposure to container concepts (e.g., Docker) and modern developer tooling (Git, IDEs).
  • Communication & Collaboration | Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset with a desire to absorb feedback and grow as an engineer.
  • Domain Experience (Nice to Have) | Background or internship experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance, financial systems, or enterprise software is a plus, but core programming fundamentals come first.
