Job Description

PURPOSE
The postdoctoral researcher will prepare research protocols, conduct studies, and publish papers on human factors and control measures related to transportation and roadway safety, emerging technology integrations, and wearable device and protective equipment performance assessment. This will involve using digital twin technologies, 3-dimensional body scanning systems, an array of field data collection sensors, robots, and other devices. The studies may or may not include human subjects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research: 70%
  • Prepare research proposals and human study protocols.
  • Coordinate human subject recruitment, conduct human studies, and/or perform field data collection
  • Publish and present research topics.
  • Participate in grant proposal and project report preparation.

Lab Coordination: 20%
  • Coordinate lab activities, such as study scheduling, protocol review, and partner communication.
  • Maintain lab equipment and software, such as equipment calibration and software update.
  • Conduct regular lab safety check, such as lab equipment set-up, workspace, and participant protection.
  • Conduct lab supply inventory and assure readiness of research labs.

Mentor/Other: 10%
  • Mentor student workers and participate in lab lecturing.
  • Host lab tours for stakeholders, university events, prospect students, and others.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Earned Doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering, Transportation Safety, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field; advanced ABD will be considered - degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.
  • A record of scholarship in preparing research protocol, conducting study, and writing paper.
  • A record demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities in coordinating research projects, mentoring student interns, and debugging instrumentation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as work with teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research relevant to digital twin for roadway safety, human-system interface evaluation, or risk assessment associated with automation and emerging technologies. Instrumentation experience, such as drone operation and simulation software integration, is a plus.

SALARY: Up to $5,000.00 Monthly ($60,000.00 Annual, Approximately)

  • This is a grant funded position with continued employment contingent upon available funding.
  • Employment may be impacted by the Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025 and the moratorium issued by Texas Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026.
