Job description

Risk and Compliance Practice
Risk & Compliance is responsible for establishing the framework, policies, guidance, and tools that support risk and compliance management across BNY. Led by the Chief Risk Officer, the function provides independent oversight, monitoring, and challenge of risk decisions and activities throughout the risk management lifecycle. Interns gain hands-on experience working with global teams across key areas such as credit, market, liquidity, technology, operational, compliance, model, AI, and enterprise risk, while building an understanding of how strong governance and consistent standards support the firm. As AI, GenAI, automation, and data-driven tools continue to transform financial services, Risk and Compliance analysts help evaluate emerging risks, strengthen controls, support responsible AI adoption, and translate complex information into insights that promote safe, sustainable growth. This includes exposure to how AI is governed, monitored, and used responsibly across the firm, including areas such as model risk, regulatory compliance, technology risk, data quality, control design, and the safe use of AI-enabled tools.
What you will do
  • Support risk and compliance activities by helping teams apply frameworks, policies, and oversight practices across the firm.

  • Analyze information, identify trends, and assess how risks are being managed across businesses, processes, and functions.

  • Assist with reviews, reporting, and documentation that support governance, monitoring, compliance efforts, and responsible AI oversight.

  • Gain exposure to key risk areas such as credit, market, liquidity, operational, technology, compliance, model, AI, and enterprise risk.

  • Explore how AI, automation, analytics, and data-driven tools can improve risk identification, enhance controls, support decision-making, and create more efficient ways of working.

  • Help teams think critically about AI-related risks, including accuracy, explainability, data quality, privacy, control effectiveness, regulatory expectations, and appropriate human oversight.

Skills you will build
  • Risk management, compliance fundamentals, and control-minded decision-making

  • AI fluency, including responsible AI principles, prompt awareness, AI governance, and the ability to understand AI-enabled business use cases

  • Data analytics, insight generation, and the ability to interpret structured and unstructured information

  • Analytical problem-solving and critical thinking

  • Written communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration

  • Judgment, attention to detail, and a control-minded approach

Impact you will have at BNY
  • Help strengthen risk and compliance practices through thoughtful analysis and consistent oversight of data and AI.

  • Support work that identifies potential risks, improves processes, and promotes sound decision-making.

  • Contribute to protecting the firm, its clients, and its reputation.

  • See how strong governance and effective challenge support responsible business performance.

Why this could be a fit for you
This role is a great fit if you are curious, analytical, and interested in how organizations identify, assess, and manage risk. It is well suited for someone who enjoys solving problems, working across teams, and contributing to a culture of accountability and responsible decision-making.
