Virginia Beach Community Teams

Job Summary

The Virginia Beach Community Teams are seeking a dedicated Public Health Nurse (RN) to provide professional nursing services in clinics, homes, schools, and community settings. This role supports disease prevention, health promotion, case management, and public health emergency response. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, and committed to improving the health of individuals, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Community Nursing

• Perform independent nursing assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.

• Provide direct patient care in clinics, homes, and community settings.

• Teach and counsel clients and families on health promotion and disease prevention.

• Administer routine child and adult immunizations.

• Conduct physical assessments, health screenings, and basic lab measurements.

Public Health Practice

• Apply the Quad Council’s Core Public Health Nursing Competencies.

• Use evidence-based strategies to promote health across populations.

• Assess health literacy and determinants of health using multiple data sources.

• Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to advance Public Health 3.0 initiatives.

• Maintain ethical standards, confidentiality, and compliance with all health laws and nursing directives.

Case Management & Program Support

• Prioritize caseloads and manage referrals and follow-up services.

• Assist individuals and families in accessing community resources.

• Use information technology to collect, analyze, and document public health data.

• Apply research and public health science to inform nursing practice.

Emergency Preparedness

• Participate in public health emergency response activities.

• May support communicable disease investigations, emergency shelters, and PPE use (including N95 fit testing).

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or a compact state.

• New graduates must obtain RN licensure within 90 days of hire.

• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.

• Ability to travel; some evening or weekend hours may be required.

• Adherence to all safety and immunization requirements.
