Mission

The A-C Electric Company Internship Experience Program offers a hands-on, immersive learning opportunity for students interested in engineering, construction, technology, and project execution.

Over the course of this 10-week program, you will gain real-world exposure to how complex electrical construction projects move from design and planning through coordination and field execution. Depending on your internship placement, interests, and business needs, your experience may have a stronger focus in Project Management or Design.

As a Project Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced project engineers, project managers, designers, and field teams while contributing to active projects. Youโ€™ll gain an understanding of how technical knowledge, collaboration, and strong project management come together to successfully build multimillion-dollar electrical projects.

About You:

  • We are looking for humble and hungry, agile students who have a drive for results, a desire to learn, and who can quickly build relationships.
  • We are looking for students who are passionate about engineering and the construction industry.

Desired Majors: Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related engineering and construction-focused degree programs.

Throughout your 10-week internship, you will:

  • Work alongside a mentor and project team to understand the lifecycle of an electrical construction project.
  • Read and interpret project drawings, specifications, contracts, and scope documents.
  • Learn how engineering and design information is translated into constructible work in the field.
  • Assist with project documentation, tracking, coordination, and communication.
  • Participate in project meetings and collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, field leadership, and other project partners.
  • Gain exposure to the tools and technology used to plan, design, coordinate, and manage electrical construction projects.
  • Visit active jobsites to better understand how planning and design decisions impact field execution.
  • Help identify project challenges, gather information, and contribute to solutions.
  • Participate in Book Club assignments to strengthen communication and leadership skills.
  • Contribute to a LEAN project focused on solving a problem or improving a process, culminating in a formal presentation to company leaders.
  • Participate in networking opportunities, team-building events, and other experiences designed to expose you to different areas of A-C Electric Company.

Depending on Your Placement, Your Experience May Include:

Project Management & Operations:

  • Support project engineers and project managers with RFIs, submittals, procurement tracking, schedules, change management, and project documentation.
  • Learn how project teams manage scope, schedule, cost, quality, and communication throughout construction.
  • Work with field leadership to understand project progress, constraints, and upcoming needs.
  • Gain exposure to coordination with general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.

Design:

  • Work alongside engineering and design professionals to understand how electrical systems are developed and documented.
  • Assist with reviewing drawings, layouts, specifications, and other technical project information.
  • Learn how design decisions impact constructability, cost, schedule, and field installation.
  • Gain exposure to design-build and design-assist environments and the collaboration required between engineering, operations, and field teams.

Internship Benefits:

  • Practical Experience: Apply classroom knowledge to real electrical construction projects
  • Mentorship: Direct guidance from senior estimators and project managers
  • Industry Exposure: Learn best practices in electrical construction estimating and project planning
  • Professional Development: Training in software tools, cost analysis, and proposal preparation
  • Networking: Build connections with leaders, engineers, and industry peers
  • Social Events: Participate in team outings, company gatherings, and community activities

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 weeks during Summer 2027
  • Enrolled student attending a college or university with an expected graduation on or before August 2029

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Weโ€™re looking for students who have shown solid academic performance โ€” at least a 3.0 GPA in upper-division courses for your major, or a 2.75 GPA overall.
  • Exceptional organizational and collaboration skills as demonstrated through leadership positions on teams and/or in student or civic organizations.
  • Strong technical experiences as demonstrated through technical projects, research, or engineering internships.
  • Exceptional communication skills, interest, and enthusiasm related to electrical engineering and/or construction.
