As of Aug 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for internship procurement in Utah is $18.58, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.77 and $21.25 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an internship procurement?

Internship procurement positions are entry-level roles designed for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in procurement and supply chain management. Interns in procurement assist with tasks such as sourcing suppliers, requesting quotes, analyzing pricing, and supporting contract negotiations under the guidance of experienced professionals. These roles provide valuable exposure to procurement processes, supplier relationship management, and business operations, helping interns build foundational skills for a career in procurement or related fields.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a procurement internship?

As a Procurement Intern, you'll typically support the procurement team with tasks such as supplier research, data analysis, purchase order processing, and assisting with contract management. You may also help with vendor communications, preparing bid documentation, and tracking order status. This hands-on experience provides valuable insights into supply chain operations, and you'll often collaborate with departments like finance, logistics, and legal to ensure smooth sourcing and purchasing processes. The variety of tasks will help you develop both technical and interpersonal skills relevant to a procurement career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship procurement, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship Procurement role, you need a basic understanding of supply chain management, procurement processes, and strong analytical skills, often supported by coursework in business or logistics. Familiarity with procurement software like SAP or Oracle, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel, is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively are valuable soft skills for this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for efficiently supporting procurement functions, ensuring accurate data management, and fostering effective supplier relationships.

What is the difference between Internship Procurement vs Procurement Specialist?

AspectInternship ProcurementProcurement Specialist
CredentialsTypically pursuing or recent graduate, no formal certification requiredRelevant certifications like CPSM or CPP, experience preferred
Work EnvironmentEntry-level, supervised, learning-focusedProfessional, independent, strategic
Industry UsageInternship programs in various industriesFull-time role in procurement or supply chain departments

Internship Procurement is an entry-level, learning-focused position for students or recent graduates, often unpaid or low-paid, aimed at gaining industry experience. Procurement Specialist is a full-time professional role requiring relevant certifications and experience, responsible for managing procurement processes independently. The internship serves as a stepping stone toward a career as a Procurement Specialist.

Can you get into internship procurement with no experience?

Internship procurement roles typically require some knowledge of supply chain or procurement processes, but entry-level positions may be available to candidates with little to no experience if they demonstrate strong organizational skills and a willingness to learn. Internships often provide on-the-job training, making prior experience less critical for entry-level applicants. Developing relevant skills such as negotiation, communication, and familiarity with procurement tools can improve chances of securing such internships.

Is an internship procurement good?

An internship in procurement provides practical experience in sourcing, vendor management, and supply chain processes, which can enhance skills and improve employability. It often offers networking opportunities and may lead to full-time positions, making it a valuable step for those interested in procurement careers.

What would an internship procurement do?

An internship procurement role involves sourcing, evaluating, and acquiring internship opportunities for an organization. It requires skills in vendor management, negotiation, and understanding of procurement processes to ensure the organization secures suitable internship programs that meet its needs.
