Job description

Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Sr. Director, ASC, the Preadmission Testing (PAT) Nurse contributes to Georgia Urology by providing safe, effective, and patient-centered preoperative nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and AAAHC standards. This role is responsible for preoperative assessment, coordination of care, and documentation to ensure patients are medically optimized and appropriately prepared prior to surgery. This role supports multiple Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) locations and serves as a centralized resource to ensure standardized preoperative processes, consistency, and efficiency across sites.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Clinical Assessment and Care Coordination
  • Perform comprehensive preadmission nursing assessments to evaluate patient readiness for scheduled surgical procedures
  • Obtain and assess medical histories, surgical histories, medications, allergies, and anesthesia risk factors
  • Review and verify preoperative testing, including laboratory results, EKGs, imaging, and outside medical records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Georgia Urology and ASC requirements
  • Identify abnormal findings, potential risks, or missing information and communicate promptly with anesthesia providers, surgeons, or other healthcare providers to facilitate appropriate clearance
  • Coordinate additional testing, medical clearances, or specialty consultations as indicated
Performance and Outcomes Accountability
  • Ensure all preoperative requirements are completed prior to surgery to reduce day-of-surgery delays and cancellations
  • Monitor and proactively follow up on outstanding testing, medical clearances, and documentation to support case readiness
  • Partner with ASC leadership and anesthesia providers to identify and address trends impacting surgical readiness and throughput
  • Contribute to performance improvement initiatives related to case cancellations, delays, and preoperative workflow efficiency
Patient Education and Communication
  • Provide clear and thorough patient education regarding preoperative instructions, medication management, NPO status, and day-of-surgery expectations
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns in a professional, compassionate, and timely manner
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, anesthesia providers, and ASC staff to ensure continuity of care
Documentation and Compliance
  • Accurately document all assessments, communications, and care coordination activities in the electronic medical record
  • Ensure documentation is complete, timely, and compliant with Georgia Urology policies, AAAHC standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies
Quality, Safety, and Performance Improvement
  • Support Georgia Urology's commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and risk reduction initiatives
  • Participate in audits, peer reviews, and performance improvement activities related to preoperative services
  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient identification, and safety protocols consistent with AAAHC standards
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge:
Education/training
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) nursing program
  • Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Georgia
Preferred:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous experience in ambulatory surgery, perioperative nursing, preadmission testing, or preoperative assessment
Licensure and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN), State of Georgia - required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - preferred, as applicable
Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
  • Knowledge of perioperative workflows, anesthesia considerations, and surgical risk stratification
  • Ability to exercise clinical judgment within established protocols and escalate appropriately while collaborating effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic computer applications
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer workstation for extended periods
  • Ability to walk throughout the Ambulatory Surgery Center as needed
  • Occasional lifting consistent with patient care and office equipment requirements
  • Work performed in a clinical and administrative ASC environment
