The Quality Engineer supports robust product and process quality by managing documentation, driving data accuracy, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on document and data control, quality engineering support, auditing and compliance, and inspection activities for electro-mechanical assemblies. The position also contributes to digital quality initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage document and data control activities, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, engineering change orders (ECOs), and bill of materials (BOM) updates, ensuring accuracy, version control, and timely implementation within ERP and MES systems.
  • Support quality engineering efforts by partnering with quality, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to investigate product and process nonconformances using root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address identified issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring alignment with quality management system (QMS) documentation and applicable standards such as ISO 9001.
  • Participate in Gemba-based process audits on the manufacturing floor to verify that operations follow documented procedures and quality standards.
  • Support incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities for electro-mechanical assemblies to verify compliance with engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Review and interpret basic engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics to validate product requirements and inspection criteria.
  • Maintain high standards of data integrity by ensuring accurate data entry and thorough review of quality records, reports, and documentation.
  • Leverage tools such as Microsoft Power Platform and other digital solutions to support quality system optimization and embed compliance into daily workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to resolve quality issues, communicate findings, and drive timely closure of quality-related actions.
  • Support new product launches by helping to establish quality standards, inspection criteria, and documentation requirements for new and updated products.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by applying lean manufacturing and quality methodologies to enhance processes, reduce waste, and improve overall product quality.
  • Assist with product lifecycle management activities related to quality documentation, change control, and configuration management.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, such as Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing, quality, or broader operational environment; relevant engineering internships or co-ops are highly valued.
  • Foundational understanding of quality engineering principles and methodologies, including root cause analysis (RCA), CAPA, and continuous improvement.
  • Basic academic or practical understanding of quality methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and other continuous improvement approaches.
  • Experience or coursework related to documentation control, data management, and engineering change orders in a technical environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in data entry, document accuracy, and maintenance of quality records.
  • Familiarity with quality inspection practices for mechanical or electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Understanding of audit and compliance concepts within a quality management system environment, including ISO 9001.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Exposure to or experience with ERP and MES software or other complex data management tools.
  • Experience using Microsoft Power Platform or similar tools to support digital quality initiatives and workflow automation.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management processes and systems in a manufacturing or engineering context.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools for reviewing models and drawings.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements and their application in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience participating in internal or external audits, including process and Gemba-based audits.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing principles, and structured problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering, manufacturing, and quality.

Work Environment

This role operates in a combined manufacturing and corporate office environment, providing exposure to both office-based quality engineering activities and on-site production processes. The position follows a Monday-Friday, first-shift schedule, typically from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility.
