Overview

WakeMed Physician Practices is a multi-specialty group withover500physicians in a variety of specialty areas. WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a board‑certified or board‑eligible Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care. This role combines inpatient critical care coverage with outpatient pulmonary services, supporting WakeMed's mission to provide exceptional care and improve community health.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical practice, strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in adult intensive care units (medical, surgical, or mixed ICUs depending on assignment)
  • Perform and oversee critical care procedures, including but not limited to intubation, central line placement, arterial lines, and ventilator management
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with hospitalists, specialists, advanced practice providers, nursing, and ancillary staff
  • Manage critically ill patients with complex conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, ARDS, multi‑organ dysfunction, and post‑operative complications
  • Support and mentor APPs, residents, and medical students as applicable
  • Participate in rapid response and code teams as required
  • Ensure compliance with evidence‑based protocols, clinical guidelines, and quality initiatives
  • Contribute to performance improvement efforts, patient safety initiatives, and organizational goals
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
