Internship Part 91 Pilot information

What is an internship Part 91 pilot?

An Internship Part 91 Pilot is a pilot-in-training who participates in an internship program focused on general aviation operations governed by Part 91 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). These pilots typically assist with non-commercial flight operations, such as private flights, corporate travel, or flight training, under the supervision of experienced pilots. The internship provides hands-on experience, exposure to aircraft operations, and an understanding of regulatory compliance, preparing interns for future roles as professional pilots.

What does an internship Part 91 pilot do?

As an Internship Part 91 Pilot, you will typically assist with pre-flight planning, aircraft inspections, and flight documentation under the supervision of experienced pilots. Daily responsibilities often include helping to coordinate flight schedules, learning to operate aircraft systems, supporting post-flight checks, and observing in-flight procedures. You may also participate in safety briefings, assist with passenger service, and gain exposure to maintenance protocols. This role provides hands-on experience in a real-world flight department, helping you build foundational skills and professional connections in corporate or private aviation.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an internship Part 91 pilot?

To thrive as an Internship Part 91 Pilot, you generally need a private pilot license (PPL) or commercial pilot license (CPL), strong knowledge of FAA regulations, and excellent airmanship. Familiarity with aircraft avionics, flight planning software, and logbook management systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, situational awareness, and adaptability are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure safe and efficient flight operations while enabling effective learning and professional growth in a real-world aviation environment.
