Position Summary

The Optical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing. Travel between clinic locations and/or overtime may be required based on operational needs.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Collecting and recording patient medical history
  • Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations.
  • Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure)
  • Measuring pupil size and reactivityย 
  • Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function)
  • Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
  • Performing dry eye testingย 
  • Maintaining a sanitized environment
  • Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography
  • Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts.
  • Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients
  • Participating in light cleaning of the facility
