SierTeK Ltd. is seeking an Operations Research Technical Reviewer (Operations Research Analyst/Mathematician/Statistician) to support an opportunity remotely (part-time).
Position Overview Section
We are seeking an experienced Operations Research Technical Reviewer to support the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) and Department of the Air Force (DAF) studies involving health outcomes, accession standards, medical waiver policies, readiness, retention, and force health analytics.
The successful candidate will provide advanced statistical and operations research expertise to analyze complex healthcare and military datasets, develop predictive and statistical models, validate analytical methodologies, and communicate findings to Air Force leadership and stakeholders. This position requires strong experience in biostatistics, healthcare analytics, SAS programming, study design, and military medical data environments.
Essential Job Functions
Statistical Analysis & Operations Research
  • Provide subject matter expertise in statistical analysis evaluating the long-term impacts of accession medical conditions on:
    • Duty performance
    • Retention
    • Readiness
    • Force health outcomes
  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses of healthcare and military datasets.
  • Develop, modify, and analyze datasets using SAS Enterprise Guide (SAS EG).
  • Apply statistical methodologies to evaluate relationships between medical conditions, accession standards, and operational outcomes.
  • Develop theoretically driven statistical models to evaluate relationships among variables within Air Force medical data environments.

Data Management & Analytics
  • Collect, validate, transform, and integrate data from multiple government databases.
  • Access and analyze medical records and operational datasets in accordance with approved data-sharing agreements.
  • Perform data mapping between source systems and analytical datasets.
  • Develop:
    • Data dictionaries
    • Data storage requirements
    • Data structures
    • Analytical datasets
  • Create and maintain datasets supporting statistical modeling, analysis, and publication.
  • Apply appropriate stratification methods using:
    • ICD codes
    • Medical classifications
    • Operational criteria
    • Other relevant health indicators

Statistical Modeling & Validation
  • Assist in developing and evaluating statistical models supporting Air Force accession waiver policy analysis.
  • Perform validation and verification activities to ensure analytical products meet requirements.
  • Identify model performance issues and assist with corrective actions.
  • Evaluate analytical methods, assumptions, and study outputs for accuracy and reliability.
  • Provide technical oversight of methodologies, analyses, and reports.

Project Management & Technical Documentation
  • Scope analytical projects and support project planning activities.
  • Develop and monitor:
    • Project timelines
    • Milestones
    • Deliverables
    • Progress reports
  • Document analytical processes, statistical methodologies, and computer code.
  • Maintain programming documentation in accordance with USAFSAM standards and commercial best practices.

  • Support professional conferences through:

  • Translate complex analytical findings into actionable information for decision-makers.

Technical Support
  • Provide automation and analytical support using:
    • SAS/SAS Enterprise Guide
    • Microsoft Access
    • Microsoft Excel

    • Microsoft Windows environments
  • Support Air Force medical data systems and standards.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance while working with protected health information.

Minimum Position Requirements
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in:
    • Biostatistics
    • Statistics
    • Operations Research
    • Mathematics
    • Related quantitative discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the applicable technical field.
  • Minimum 10 years of statistical experience within a healthcare or military environment.
  • Current HIPAA training certification.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with:
