Job description

General Statement of Duties:
The assistant coach provides instructional, administrative, and recruiting support services under the direction of the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
  • Primary duty is to assist the head coach in the implementation of sport training through teaching and instructing the student-athletes in the rules and fundamentals of tennis.
  • Under the direction of the head coach, will assist in providing sport skill instruction, assist in the conduct of practice sessions, perform game related duties, and motivate players to give their best efforts.
  • Contribute to recruiting efforts through on-campus visits and off-campus evaluation.
  • Support team fundraising initiatives.
  • Mentor student athletes.
  • Demonstrate sincere interest in the personal, academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
  • Represent the University in a positive manner at all times.
  • Abide by all SLIAC and NCAA rules and regulations.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*
  • Driving passenger vans to help transport teams to and from matches.
  • May supervise volunteer assistants and/or student managers.

Functional/Technical Skills*
  • Demonstrated tennis coaching knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills.
  • General knowledge of NCAA Division III rules.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in coaching tennis or other related tennis activities.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the university community and the public.
  • Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence.
