Job description

Location: Space Resource Technologies – Oviedo, FL
Employment Dates: August 17, 2026 – December 11, 2026

Hours: 20-25 hours/week (Part-Time, Temporary)

About the Role

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in manufacturing processes that support the future of space exploration? Space Resource Technologies is seeking a Production & Materials Processing Intern to assist with the preparation, handling, and quality assurance of planetary regolith simulants used in space research and technology development.

This role is ideal for students interested in manufacturing, mechanical processes, materials science, or space technologies. Interns will support the Operations team in executing standardized production procedures, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to process efficiency in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Strong performance may lead to future opportunities within the company.

Who We Are

At Space Resource Technologies, we replicate the surfaces of the Moon, Mars, and asteroids. Our simulants are used by NASA, ESA, JAXA, universities, and private space companies to test hardware, conduct research, and prepare for future missions. Our work supports innovations related to in-situ resource utilization (ISRU), robotics, infrastructure development, and sustainable space exploration.

By joining SRT, you contribute to advancing technologies that support the NASA Artemis program and the development of a multi-planetary future.

Responsibilities

Material Handling & Processing

  • Safely handle bulk materials such as basalt and planetary regolith simulants
  • Assist with crushing, sieving, blending, and packaging processes
  • Follow material handling protocols to ensure consistency and minimize contamination

Equipment Operation & Monitoring

  • Operate and monitor processing equipment such as hammermills, conveyors, and vibratory sieves
  • Identify potential mechanical issues (e.g., jams, abnormal sounds, inefficiencies) and communicate observations to supervisors
  • Support routine equipment setup and basic troubleshooting tasks

Process Execution

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent product quality
  • Maintain accurate workflow execution within established production timelines
  • Support process improvements identified by the Operations team

Quality Control & Data Tracking

  • Conduct basic quality checks, such as particle size verification and visual inspection for contamination
  • Accurately record production output and material characteristics
  • Assist with maintaining organized batch tracking documentation

Safety & Workplace Organization

  • Follow PPE requirements and dust mitigation protocols when working with fine materials
  • Maintain a clean and organized production environment using Lean / 6S principles
  • Contribute to a safe and hazard-free workspace

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Detail-oriented and able to follow technical procedures carefully
  • Comfortable working with hands-on processes and equipment
  • Reliable and able to maintain consistency in repetitive production tasks
  • Curious and motivated to learn new manufacturing techniques
  • Able to work independently while collaborating with a small team
  • Interested in space exploration, materials science, or engineering environments

Basic Requirements

  • Enrolled student or recent graduate from UCF, Valencia College, Seminole State, or similar program (preferred but not required)
  • Available to work approximately 10–12 hours per week from August to December 2026
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and wear required PPE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or experience in mechanical engineering, materials science, manufacturing, or a related technical field
  • Previous experience in fabrication, laboratory, or production environments
  • Familiarity with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Exposure to Lean, 5S/6S, or continuous improvement concepts
  • Interest in planetary science, ISRU, or space systems development
  • Participation in STEM clubs, research labs, or engineering projects

Why Join SRT?

  • Gain hands-on experience supporting real space research and hardware testing
  • Learn manufacturing processes used in aerospace-related applications
  • Work closely with engineers and technical specialists in a collaborative environment
