Work Shift: Pediatric Afterhours will be opening Fulltime December 1, 2026

Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).

Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.

Provide patient/family centered care using the nursing process and focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.

Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.

Coordinates the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through the application of care management principles.

MUSC Children's After Hours and Specialty Clinics is a pediatric outpatient clinic operating under Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital at MUSC, now opening in the new MUSC Medical Office Building in Bluffton. This location brings pediatric After Hours services to the Bluffton community for the first time. During daytime hours, the facility hosts a wide range of pediatric subspecialists, including pediatric gastroenterology, cardiology, and orthopedics, among others. We also provide walk-in After Hours Care, which serves as an extension of the pediatric emergency department to support families during the times when most pediatric practices are closed.

Specialty Clinics: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

After Hours Clinic:

• Monday–Friday, 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
• Weekends, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Schedule: This part-time position consists of three 8-hour shifts in Afterhours: 12:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and every other weekend from 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Example of Schedule:

- 1st Week: Monday, Tuesday 1230-9PM & Saturday 1030 AM- 7PM

- 2nd Week: Sunday 1030AM-7PM, Wednesday & Thursday 1230-9PM; Off the weekend

Preference: Charge nurse experience is preferred for After Hours coverage. The RN II reports to the Ambulatory Services Manager and provides patient-centered nursing care to pediatric patients and their families within the scope of practice and the nursing process. The RN also serves as the Charge Nurse during After Hours operations, offering leadership and guidance to staff, providers, and patients to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care.

Required Minimum Training and Education: Associate's Degree, and a minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Registered Nurse required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
