Distribution Design Engineering I | Houston, Texas, United States Job Summary: Distribution Design Engineering I - Houston, TX About the Role Join Leidos as a Distribution Design Engineering I and launch your engineering career in electric utility design. In this entry-level position, you will support the design and engineering of overhead and underground electric distribution systems, focusing on critical infrastructure hardening and wildfire mitigation projects. This is an onsite role based in Houston, TX (77042) with required field site visits. Responsibilities - Develop and produce design and construction work packages using AutoCAD, AUD, GIS, and other proprietary tools. - Perform foundational engineering calculations such as pole loading, guying, voltage drop, and conductor sag/tension. - Transform field-collected data into digital design plans for reconductoring, pole replacements, and line hardening. - Interpret utility scope documents and translate them into detailed, executable design solutions. - Conduct post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with utility and safety standards. - Perform rigorous self-checks on design work before formal QA/QC reviews. - Learn and operate internal Apple-based field data collection platforms (training provided). - Assist with permitting and utility coordination as needed. - Conduct field site visits to collect pole data, GPS coordinates, and structure conditions (no contact with energized components; rental vehicles and PPE provided). Required Skills and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering field (ABET-accredited). - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Valid driver's license with ability to travel locally for site visits. - Professional demeanor with attention to detail and eagerness to learn. - Willingness to work in both office and field environments. Preferred Skills - Prior internship or academic experience in electric utility or distribution design. - Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or utility design software. - Exposure to NESC or GO95 standards. - Knowledge of O-Calc, Pole Foreman, or equivalent pole loading tools.
