Employment Category: Full Time / Exempt Location: NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), Edwards AFB, CA Work performed in office, control room, and field environments. Schedule: 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM, 9/80 compressed schedule.

Work hours may include early mornings, late nights, or weekends depending on mission requirements, but are primarily within normal operating hours Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen The Meteorological Engineer supports flight research and mission operations at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) through advanced meteorological forecasting, data analysis, and real-time operational support. This role focuses on providing accurate environmental insight to ensure safe and successful execution of flight and ground missions

The engineer works closely with flight crews, engineers, and mission teams to assess weather impacts and support decision-making across all phases of operations. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to flight test programs where environmental awareness is critical to mission success. Primary Responsibilities Forecasting & Analysis Provide local, regional, and global meteorological forecasts supporting flight and ground operations Analyze atmospheric conditions including winds, turbulence, icing, visibility, and severe weather Perform climatology studies and environmental trend analysis Provide space weather analysis and assess operational impacts Flight Operations Support Provide real-time weather monitoring and mission support during flight operations Brief pilots, engineers, and mission personnel on weather conditions and risks Identify hazardous weather and recommend mitigation strategies Support mission planning, execution, and post-flight analysis Instrumentation & Data Systems Deploy, operate, and maintain meteorological instrumentation and sensors Maintain calibration and ensure accuracy of meteorological data systems Manage meteorological data collection, archiving, and accessibility Engineering Coordination Collaborate with engineers, pilots, and technicians to integrate weather data into operations Support control room operations during testing and flight activities Contribute to safety, airworthiness, and mission readiness decisions Technical Documentation Prepare reports, briefings, and technical documentation Support technical publications and engineering reviews Key Benefits and Impact Directly support real-world flight missions and aircraft operations Contribute to cutting-edge aerospace research and safety Work alongside multidisciplinary engineering and flight teams See your work influence mission success in real time Compensation & Benefits Pay: $170k - $220k Schedule: M-F, 8-hrs/days 401K with up to 4% employer matching contribution 4 weeks (160 hrs/year) Paid Time Off (PTO), Federal holidays, and Sick Leave Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance, Short Term/Long Term DisabilityMinimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or related field 7+ years of relevant experience Experience with operational forecasting and meteorological analysis Experience supporting aviation or flight operations Strong communication and briefing skills U.S
