Job description

Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates to deliver our innovative services. Meta is seeking an experienced, organized and self-motivated individual to support the development of cost-effective energy solutions for our growing fleet of data centers. In this role, you will be a key contributor to Meta’s data center energy strategy, specifically supporting the grid-scale energy infrastructure analysis and development to support our data centers. Your responsibilities will include: analyzing and validating technical transmission studies and proposals, assessing transmission operator proposals for impacts to Meta’s data center development, engaging with internal and external stakeholders to develop transmission strategies to support Meta’s data center development. You will work with our Energy Managers and Energy Program Managers to assess site viability, execute commercial agreements, and be expected to think critically about Meta’s data center energy infrastructure.
Energy Manager, Transmission Responsibilities:
  • Support the creation and execution of overarching and site-specific energy infrastructure strategies for Facebook’s data centers
  • Analyze transmission development plans and cost structures, including power flow studies and cost allocation methodologies, and clearly communicate risks and opportunities to internal stakeholders
  • Analyze large data sets from grid studies, forecast future system conditions, and develop multiple planning scenarios considering load growth, generation retirements, and renewable energy penetration
  • Inform and execute on commercial strategies to enable transmission development at scale to support AI data center development
  • Interface with technical teams internally and externally to advance Meta’s interest in transmission system development and compliance
  • Lead negotiations for transmission projects that align with Meta's project and company requirements and policies, and present recommendations to leadership for approval
  • Lead communication and deliverables between utility partners, internal stakeholders, and consultants with a high degree of autonomy
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal partners, including site selection, strategic engineering, data center design, construction, facility operations, legal, and finance
  • Identify and drive process improvements to optimize project delivery, resulting in significant time and cost savings
  • Lead and manage various ad-hoc energy initiatives for Meta and its energy program, driving successful outcomes and delivering value to the organization
  • Autonomously navigate ambiguity in the data center development process while continuing to drive projects forward
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed (up to 25%)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or energy related discipline
  • Working knowledge of transmission, distribution and utility interconnection processes and electrical infrastructure
  • Proficiency in interpreting and conducting power flow studies, including steady-state analysis, contingency analysis, and voltage stability assessments. Familiarity with industry-standard software platforms (PSS®E, PowerWorld, PSLF) and their outputs enables effective technical discussions with engineers and consultants
  • Experience with project development and management for complex, large-scale projects
  • Proficiency with analytical tools and the ability to identify trends that inform strategic transmission investment decisions are increasingly important in dynamic energy markets
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong communication skills, and an ability to develop and maintain partnerships with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Intermediate skills with Google suite of applications including Sheets and Docs
  • Intermediate Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting data center, hyperscale, or large industrial load interconnection projects exceeding 100 MW
  • Experience with financial modeling of transmission upgrade costs, rate cases, or long-term power delivery agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Familiarity with energy storage, renewable integration, or behind-the-meter generation as components of transmission solutions
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Established relationships with major transmission owners, ISOs, or RTOs in key data center markets across North America or Europe
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
