What is the difference between Internship Mems Engineer vs Mems Engineer?

AspectInternship Mems EngineerMems Engineer
QualificationsEnrolled in or recent graduate of relevant engineering or technical programBachelor's or master's degree in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, often in R&D labs or manufacturing facilitiesFull-time professional role in design, development, or manufacturing teams
ResponsibilitiesAssisting in MEMS device design, testing, and fabricationLeading MEMS projects, designing devices, and troubleshooting

In summary, an Internship Mems Engineer is a temporary, entry-level position for students or recent graduates gaining hands-on experience, while a Mems Engineer is a full-time professional responsible for designing and developing MEMS devices in a corporate setting.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as an Internship MEMS Engineer?

As an Internship MEMS Engineer, you'll typically work on projects involving the design, simulation, and testing of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) devices. Your daily tasks may include assisting with device fabrication, running experiments, analyzing data, and supporting senior engineers with ongoing research or product development. You may collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, mechanical, and materials engineers, gaining exposure to the full product development cycle. This role provides a valuable opportunity to develop hands-on technical skills and build a strong foundation for a future career in MEMS engineering.

What does an Internship MEMS Engineer do?

An Internship MEMS Engineer assists in the design, development, and testing of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) devices, such as sensors and actuators. They typically work under the guidance of senior engineers, performing tasks like data analysis, simulation, and lab experiments. Interns may also support fabrication processes, contribute to technical documentation, and help troubleshoot device performance. This role provides hands-on experience in both theoretical and practical aspects of MEMS engineering, often involving collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship MEMS Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship MEMS Engineer, you need a solid understanding of microfabrication, semiconductor physics, and basic circuit design, typically supported by coursework in electrical or mechanical engineering. Familiarity with CAD tools (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks), simulation software (like COMSOL Multiphysics), and lab equipment for testing MEMS devices is often required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help interns collaborate and contribute meaningfully to project teams. These competencies are crucial for successfully supporting MEMS development and innovation in a fast-paced research and development environment.

Job description

Company Overview KLA is a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Virtually every electronic device in the world is produced using our technologies. No laptop, smartphone, wearable device, voice-controlled gadget, flexible screen, VR device or smart car would have made it into your hands without us.

KLA invents systems and solutions for the manufacturing of wafers and reticles, integrated circuits, packaging, printed circuit boards and flat panel displays. The innovative ideas and devices that are advancing humanity all begin with inspiration, research and development. KLA focuses more than average on innovation and we invest 15% of sales back into R&D.

Our expert teams of physicists, engineers, data scientists and problem-solvers work together with the world's leading technology providers to accelerate the delivery of tomorrow's electronic devices. Life here is exciting and our teams thrive on tackling really hard problems. There is never a dull moment with us.

Group/Division With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The LS-SWIFT Division of KLA's Global Products Group provides patterned wafer inspection systems for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.

Its mission is to deliver market-leading cost of ownership in defect detection for a broad range of applications in the production of semiconductors. Customers from the foundry, logic, memory, automotive, MEMS, advanced packaging and other markets rely upon high-sample wafer inspection information generated by LS-SWIFT products. LS (Laser Scanning) systems enable cost-effective patterned wafer defect detection for the industry's most sophisticated process technologies deployed in leading-edge foundry, logic, DRAM, and NAND fabs.

SWIFT (Simultaneous Wafer Inspection at Fast Throughput) systems deliver all-wafer-surface (frontside, backside, and edge) macro inspection that is critical for automotive IC, MEMS, and advanced packaging processes as well as foundry/logic and memory fabs. LS-SWIFT operates from a global footprint that includes the US, Singapore, India and Germany, and serves a worldwide customer base across Asia, Europe and North America. Job Description/Preferred Qualifications The Systems Design Engineer will be part of a dynamic, fast pace team developing some of the most challenging laser sources.

This is an experimentalist role with experience in designing and building lasers and Optical Parametric Oscillators with emphasis in shorter wavelengths. The role requires deep knowledge and understanding of laser cavity design and implementation, optics and non linear conversion processes. Additionally to hands on skills, understanding and developing models for conversion efficiency, optimization techniques and tolerance analysis are preferred.

Optics design with Zemax and programming with Matlab or Python are considered strong qualifications. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate (Academic) Degree in Lasers, Non Linear Optics, Photonics and 1-5 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of more than 5 years Base Pay Range: $136,300.00 - $231,700.00 Annually Primary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA KLA's total rewards package for employees may also include participation in performance incentive programs and eligibility for additional benefits including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits, 401(K) including company matching, employee stock purchase program (ESPP), student debt assistance, tuition reimbursement program, development and career growth opportunities and programs, financial planning benefits, wellness benefits including an employee assistance program (EAP), paid time off and paid company holidays, and family care and bonding leave.
