Internship Measurement Engineer information

What types of projects do internship measurement engineers typically work on, and how do they contribute to the team?

Internship Measurement Engineers often take part in hands-on projects related to testing, calibration, and data analysis of engineering systems or products. They frequently assist in setting up experiments, collecting measurement data, and interpreting results to support product development and quality assurance. Interns collaborate closely with senior engineers and technicians, gaining exposure to industry-standard measurement equipment and procedures. This role provides valuable experience in troubleshooting, report writing, and teamwork, which are crucial for advancing in engineering careers.

What does an internship measurement engineer do?

An Internship Measurement Engineer assists in designing, implementing, and maintaining measurement systems in various engineering projects. They often work under the supervision of experienced engineers to collect, analyze, and interpret data from sensors and instruments. Their responsibilities may include calibrating equipment, preparing test setups, and documenting results to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards. This role provides hands-on experience in the practical application of measurement techniques and data analysis within engineering environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship measurement engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Measurement Engineer, you generally need a background in engineering or physics, solid mathematical skills, and familiarity with measurement principles, often supported by enrollment in a relevant degree program. Experience with tools such as data acquisition systems, measurement software (e.g., LabVIEW), and calibration equipment is typically expected. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are vital soft skills for accurately interpreting data and collaborating with team members. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring precise measurement, data reliability, and successful project outcomes in engineering environments.

What is the difference between Internship Measurement Engineer vs Measurement Engineer?

AspectInternship Measurement EngineerMeasurement Engineer
QualificationsEnrolled in or recent graduate of engineering or related programBachelor's or higher in engineering, often with certifications
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, supervised, entry-level tasksFull-time, professional environment, project responsibilities
ResponsibilitiesAssisting with measurements, data collection, learning proceduresDesigning measurement systems, analyzing data, optimizing processes

The main difference is that an Internship Measurement Engineer is a temporary, entry-level position aimed at gaining experience, while a Measurement Engineer is a full-time professional responsible for implementing measurement systems and analysis. Internships serve as a stepping stone toward a career as a Measurement Engineer.

Job description

Software Security Engineer (Entry-Level)
About the Team / Our Culture
For more than 80 years, Tektronix has set the benchmark for quality in electronic test and measurement instruments. Our brand is built on engineering excellence, and we take that responsibility seriously. We foster a culture centered on learning, problem-solving, strong teamwork, and operational discipline. Continuous improvement is part of our DNA, and we thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
We're looking for a motivated, early-career engineer with a strong technical foundation and a passion for cybersecurity. In this role, you will support Secure Product Development initiatives across the engineering organization, including secure coding, tool administration, automation scripting, vulnerability management, and advising software engineers on security requirements. This is a great opportunity for someone eager to grow their skills and contribute to building a secure-by-design engineering culture.
Responsibilities
  • Secure Product Development:
    • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security standards and best practices.
    • Help identify, triage, and track remediation of vulnerabilities.
    • Contribute to the integration and tuning of security tools (SAST, SCA, DAST, secrets scanning, etc.).
    • Provide guidance and support to engineers regarding security requirements.
    • Participate and guide product teams in threat modeling to identify potential risks using STRIDE and DREAD frameworks.
  • Automation & Scripting:
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) to improve security processes and workflows.
    • Create small internal tools or utilities that support engineering productivity and security visibility.
  • Systems & Tool Administration:
    • Help manage and administer security-related platforms (e.g., SAST, DAST, SCA scanners).
    • Assist with onboarding engineers to security tools and workflows.
    • Support documentation efforts for operational procedures and tool usage.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
    • Work closely with software engineers, DevOps, and IT to promote secure practices.
    • Participate in security incident response activities as needed.
    • Stay up to date with emerging security trends, threats, and technologies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or a related technical field.
  • Strong familiarity with one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
  • Understanding of core cybersecurity topics such as OWASP Top 10, SSDLC, and common vulnerability types.
  • Ability to learn new tools, technologies, and security concepts quickly.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework, internships, or projects related to cybersecurity.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with GitHub or similar version control systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines or developer tooling.
  • Basic knowledge of networking fundamentals and security protocols.
  • Relevant certifications (Security+, GSEC, etc.) are a plus but not required.
What We're Looking For
This role is ideal for someone who:
  • Has a strong technical grounding and wants to specialize in security.
  • Enjoys problem-solving, debugging, and understanding how systems work.
  • Is proactive, curious, and eager to grow within a security-focused career path.
  • Thrives in a collaborative engineering environment.
