SUMMARY
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of electrical power distribution networks for Mitsubishi Power's Gas Turbine projects. This role requires expertise in low- and medium-voltage systems and experience with equipment such as Motor Control Centers (MCCs), motors, panelboards, transformers, DC systems, variable speed drives, UPS, AC/DC rectifiers, and backup power systems. The Senior Electrical Engineer collaborates across disciplines, vendors, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant electrical system designs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop electrical systems based on Mitsubishi Power's electrical design standards.
  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from parent company or customer specifications.
  • Interpret and design per applicable electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, and AGA.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical equipment into project designs.
  • Prepare and review specifications for electrical components and work with vendors to integrate equipment and systems.
  • Perform and review calculations for sizing breakers, overload devices, relays, cables, conduits, equipment spacing, and illumination levels.
  • Generate and review electrical drawing packages, including single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.
  • Develop and review wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) and SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize designs for improved manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Meet regularly with vendors to ensure compliance with technical and schedule requirements.
  • Interpret and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Utilize SmartPlant Electrical, SPI, SmartPlant 3D (S3D), or similar database-driven design software for power and control system design.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report unsafe activities promptly.
  • Lead junior engineers, designers, and interns, supporting their development and providing mentorship.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to meet departmental and company goals.
  • Contribute to building a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning of equipment.
  • Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage design deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Travel up to 10% may be required for project or vendor support.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of technical and practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, and familiarity with NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, and related standards.
  • Experience with large power plant generators (150 MVA ratings and above) for gas or steam turbines is preferred.
  • Knowledge or interest in computer programming languages is a plus.

Software Skills:
  • SmartPlant Electrical (preferred): expertise in report and symbol creation, filters, rules, reference data, batch operations, and data maintenance.
  • SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), SmartSketch, SmartPlant 3D, Revit 3D, or comparable 3D design tools.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • ETAP or similar electrical analysis tools.

Communication Skills:
  • Strong ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Capable of presenting information to clients, management, and other engineers effectively.

Mathematical & Reasoning Skills:
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including electrical load calculations, sizing, and safety analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex engineering variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Work environment is primarily office-based; hearing protection may be required in certain areas.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

WHY SHOULD YOU APPLY?
  • Competitive benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k) matching.
  • Strong development programs and advancement opportunities.
